Doggy bits!!!
Hi All,
I have a staffie x jack russell who is 11 months old. He has a little problem with his bits, its seems his penis is too big for his foreskin (only way I can describe it) and "hangs out" all the time, it never goes fully in! It is quite red at the end and he licks it constantly, which I guess is because it gets dry and must irritate him? The woman we got him from said that the vets told her it would sort itself out with age. Has anyne else ever come across this? Is it something to be worried about?

Re: Doggy bits!!!
I must admit, although it comes out from time to time, I wouldn't be happy with it being out all the time.
I think maybe a trip to the vet to ask advice would be in order.

Re: Doggy bits!!!
It doesnt seem to bother him, apart from when he licks it, it doesnt look as if it hurts him but it cant be normal? I havent come across this before

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Thank you, he is due to be neutered next week so I shall mention it to the vets then and see what they suggest

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Logan is one of those boys who has his out a lot of the time too. It is a lot to do with his age, and that he hasn't been neutered. However, if it is always out as in never goes back he may have to go to the vets. He may have an infection or something causing it. But they could tell you best

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Thanks MatLogan, Yes it never seems to go back in which is what concerns me as I dont want it to get infected or anything. I will have a chat with the vets, just wandered if anyone has ever heard of this before?

Heard of it before but it isn't 'normal' and could cause some problems, so the vet is the way to go. Hope it goes well

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Hi All, took him last night, when he has his op next week to be neutered they are going to put a stick in the skin to tighten it a bit, leave it in for a couple of weeks and see if it helps. If not he will have to have plastic surgery; skin grafts to make the foreskin longer poor little thing

Re: Doggy bits!!!
At least you got it looked at good and quickly. Hopefully that helps and there won't be too much more to be done. Did they know why it happened? Or maybe it was how he was born?

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Well the woman who we got him from didnt really tell us anything, other than he had a little "problem" with his bits. So the vets dont really know why or how long its been like this which is a bit of a concern! But hopefully he wont need any plastic surgery

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Hopefully not. But you've made the first step to getting it sorted anyway

Re: Doggy bits!!!
He might need to be circumcised! Or they may give you something to put on it to stop this happening. May try some lubricating water-based jelly when it happens x

Re: Doggy bits!!!
Romeo's 'red rocket' is always out and about, doesnt take much to make him happy.
But Romeo's brother Pomo got a wee bit over happy once and it came out and he couldnt get it back in, he had to be sedated and the vet had to put it back in by hand because he was in so much agony.
coming out from tim to time is ok, as long as it can go back in... and clearly your vet has realised this and is going to do something about it.
the poor little trooper.. nothing worse for a boy i guess then having willy issues
