Dempsey's Chewing Problem
Dempsey has always been bad for chewing/eating things that he shouldn't. It's never mattered what we've said or done, if it's there & it'll go down his gullet, he'll swallow it!
So, Christmas I bought him a soft toy, knowing that it wouldn't last him long. It was a plush doggy with a Christmas hat on. So, Christmas day, he got all excited & took the toy & proceeded to run around with it & shake it to make sure it was dead.
Next thing we knew he had eaten the hat.
No warning, no pulling etc - just eaten the hat. So we waited (it wasn't a big hat) & as everything was ok we assumed he had passed the problem out of his system.
The past couple of days he's been a bit restless, but eating/drinking fine. A couple of days ago he brought up a bit of bile, and the same this morning so I thought I'd keep an eye on him, but wasn't concerned.
However, today I went shopping & when I came back he forced his way past me into the garden & went to his favourite spot to have a poo. "Great" I thought "he's got an upset stomach"
I stayed to watch (as you do) and sure enough the first couple of strains were a bit soft, but then all of a sudden a large, hard bit shot out of his backside & landed a couple of feet away! Yes, you've guessed it, it was the Christmas Toy Hat. Totally intact. Mucky, yse, but intact. No wonder he'd been a bit restless!

Was it? I thought it was a little doggie toy!
Shows how much notice I take of things, & I bought it!

Blimey. Well all's well that ends well, as they say.
Good thing Dempsey's got "shot" of it! So the hat is intact - are you going to put it back on plush doggy?
They are beggars for eating everything they shouldn't aren't they, I'm still waiting for my mobile phone and two pairs of glasses to "reappear".

Gross but glad it's not causing him any problems anymore. Is it a breed trait to chew/eat whatever they come across no matter how much you train them out of it, or is he just a weirdo*?

It's a breed trait. They are well known for it - Dempsey's champion grandfather died fairly recently because he ate part of his bedding.

Glad he passed the hat without any issue. Suki wants to eat everything as well so I know it can be stressfull

The last dog we had was a boxer, that ate a pair of soiled knickers from the daughter who was just starting to wear knickers at the time. Well the dog called Sandy puked them back up again 3 days later

He hasn't learned after nearly 4 years, so I doubt it!

He would have liked to eat it even if it wasn't washed.
