Chewing Problem
Hiya Everyone
In the last few days Archie has started to chew a little bit of the door frame. I've been using puppy behavior spray and it seemed to be working but not now. Its only when he is left for a couple of hours when he does it. Can anyone recommend anything I could try to see if it stops him? I could open my own pet shop with the amount of toys he has lol so its not that he hasn't got anything to nibble or chew on
Many Thanks
Danielle & Archie

Re: Chewing Problem
How long is he walked for before he is left ? Maybe he needs a bit longer out for exercise before being left alone.

Re: Chewing Problem
Bella is doing the same just now and we are in rented house!!! aaarrgh.
I have covered the whole of the kitchen in vicks today at all the points where she would have a nibble.
I'm leaving work in 20 mins to go home. I'll post the results and if it works then that could be a shout.
A few posts on here have mentioned vicks and vinegar also.
I tend to find with Bella that the puppy spray works until it drys in. After a day or so she goes back.
Fingers crossed.

Re: Chewing Problem
It's all normal puppy behaviour bitter apple spray worked for us, but Vicks works to, as does the required excercise of 5 mins per month of age 2/3 day, and distraction with something they can chew, good luck, hope this helps

Re: Chewing Problem
He is walked for an hour on a morning and only left for 3 hours then my sister takes him out for another hour and then takes him home and he is on his own for another couple of hours and we walk him for over an hour on a night so he gets plenty of exercise. Aww that would be great if you could let me know if the vicks rub works and i'll get some i've been spraying the behavior spray every morning so its fresh and it still doesn't work. Where can i get bitter apple spray from?

Re: Chewing Problem
Hiya,
The Vicks worked. She did manage to find a bit that we didn't think she'd go for tho but lesson learnt!
Don't get Vicks tho. Asda do their own brand for a pound which is good as I think I may go thru a lot.
Not sure if I shudder be reapplying daily or leave it for a few days?

Re: Chewing Problem
Glad to hear I am not the only one short a door frame (or two!)
A mix of bitter spray, vicks, kongs, exercise and age would be my recommendation - the latter two being the only fool proof cures I have come across so far

Re: Chewing Problem
I used to crate mine, till she got out of this behaviour so I don't have much advice here. My dog hates the smell of vicks though so it has to be good

Re: Chewing Problem
Sorry to turn things round on their head but is your profile right and he is only 14 weeks , the amount of walking here is way too long if this is correctDaniMc84 wrote:He is walked for an hour on a morning and only left for 3 hours then my sister takes him out for another hour and then takes him home and he is on his own for another couple of hours and we walk him for over an hour on a night so he gets plenty of exercise. Re: Chewing Problem
He is 16 weeks now, he has so much energy he needs the walks. He doesn't always get a walk during the day but is always out on a morning and evening. I asked my vets and they have said its fine for him to be walked this much. We often get home after walking him and he still has energy and runs around the house for a while

Re: Chewing Problem
It not so much about the energy, it's the damage that can be done to their body, joints etc if they are exercised too much too young. I am surprised your vet said this amount was OK. This is our link about puppy exercise

Re: Chewing Problem
Zeus used to do this when we first got him, door frames, skirting boards etc. But we started to put white vinegar on everything we didn't want him to chew and it worked a treat!
