it depends how they get on some people have 2 girls some a boy and girl. We have one of each and they get on fine. Best thing would be to get 1 first then after a while introduce another. The rescue centre will insist on your first dog having a few meetings with the prospective newcomer. Good luck rescue dogs are great if thats what you intend on getting Smile

If you get one to begin with then introduce another from a rescue centre you may well be able to take puppy number 1 in with you to introduce to another at the rescue centre, if you decide to go this way.

I would not advize getting 2 puppys from the same litter as this can cause a degree of friction between them. No point in adding unnecessary anxiety for either.

Just a thought as I haven't seen you post about rescuing but as others say go for pup no 1 and then leave it ideally for 2 year before you get no 2 or you could be giving yourself a heap of problems, and it also may go trouble free Smile Generally speaking 1 of each sex is the best combination though we have members on here with 2 boys and 2 girls without troubles.

The other 1 to look for going back to the rescue thought is you will find dogs out there that need homing together and these will often be overlooked or split up , and if you want an instant family at least you know they get along

Dogs of the same age are generally less tolerant of each other, same for the sex. Of course it all depends on the dog, but ideally get a bitch first then about 2 years later a dog.

To tell the truth i wasnt looking at rescue dogs. I would find a breeder. If i got one of each would they not want to breed as i dont want to breed i would want 2 for the company of each other.

Well obviously boys and girls will be exactly that and this is a damn good additional reason for the age difference. If you have boy and girl , although it is a big topic in its own rights 1 would have to be neutered and most of us on here wouldn't recommend it from a young age , generally 18months - 2 yrs would be the "norm"

You may decide that after getting a girl and seeing her grow up for a couple of years that 1 is enough anyway , at least you have the option that way than think Oh Sh1t I dont want to s

We got Tilly first and then Tommy when Tilly was just under 2 years , Tommy is 8 months now and I still wouldn't say they were the bestest ever buddies in the world and they do have their moments but they also enjoy time together . Tilly was very easy work , incredibly easy but still very much a puppy , if we'd had the 2 both at the same time I know I would have regretted it big style Smile

If you stuck to the times then you could easily and safely get the bitch spayed before the dog came into any sort of stage were he could reproduce. They say it is always better to leave spaying until after 2 years Smile

Good luck, and please make sure to use your head not your heart when choosing a pup. There are a lot of people only out for money and they tug on heart strings to get it, which begins the cycle again. There is a lot of good advice on here about choosing a breeder and a pup and never hesitate to ask anything we will all use our noggins to make sure you get the most healthy and humanely bred pups Smile

No, please don't post links to preloved, they're almost as bad as gumtree.

I got a girl first, then when she was 10mths we got an 8wk male pup.

She mothered him from the start, they are very very close.

Get one to begin with, see how u go, u will know when the time is right to get a 2nd.

Hiya R KID... I have a 2 yr old female (got her from pup) and i got another female when she was a pup and my older girl was approx 18 mnths and i can honestly say i was worried as i would NEVER want my older girl Inca to ever feel pushed out or even loved less but since getting Sky they have been the best of friends and never shown any aggression towards each other .. Inca can sometimes be very protective towards Sky and nudge's any dogs that tries to push Sky around and basically Inca is kind of like a security blanket for Sky ... But my head would deffo be up my backside if i was to get 2 pups at the same time !!!! Am glad theres an age gap between my girls ... Inca is 2.5 yrs old & Sky is nearly 9 mnths old ..

if breeding is a no no. get a brother and sister.
I personally would love to have one perfect example staff and a rescue staff.

R Kid as promised I made some inquiries with my breeder. They are planning a mating in January which would mean that the pups would be ready sometime in May. If this is of interest to you timewise then please let Steve have your contact details and I can tell you a little more about it , you can express an interest at the moment but not join a waiting list until a pregnancy has been confirmed . I do also know where there is a beautiful red and white girl possibly available in the next few weeks (Bristol area)??
Just be prepared for many questions from either Breeder , I don't mean to be rude but they are very responsible and wouldn't just let the pups go to anyone and this is for the well being of the pups

How on earth would that work? One or other of them would have to be neutered very young!

Brothers and sister are more likely to fight so it isn't recommended. And if they accidentally mated the pups would be hideously inbred.
