Hello all,

I just got my first Staffordshire Bull Terrier on December 24, 2012. He is 4 months old. I named him Rhyllis. Pronounced like Willis, but with an "r".) He has already changed my life and makes me so happy. He is such a good boy. He is a brindle and so handsome. I am open to any suggestions on what I can do to make my puppy a happy puppy. Nice to meet all of you.

is it a American Staffordshire Bull Terrier? (Amstaff)

I am still learning about the differences in the Staffy's. So, I am unsure if it is an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The papers just say Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Can you offer information on how to tell the difference? I just love him either way

Well first off an Amstaff is an American Staffordshire Terrier and NOT an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier , an Amstaff is a bigger dog altogether generally , if the papers say SBT then that should be what you have . do you have any pics to share we love puppy pics here

oh, well i just know they are slightly different breed. very similar but the Amstaff is a bit taller. I'd love to see some photos of your Rhyllis. Both Staffy breeds at the end of the day

Still navigating my way around. Once I figure out how and where to post pics I will. I have pics of his parents too. They are a smaller breed, so I'm sure he is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I have a question for everyone. I didn't know much about the breed, but I am obviously learning to love it. I have been watching everyone's videos on here and reading about Staffy's. When I tell people what kind of dog he is they are all like, "oh, a pitbull". How do you all handle that, you know the preconceived notions? What seems to work best for yall? I plan to socialize him with many animals. My family all has different breeds of dogs and I have two cats. My dog and cats already love each other in just these few days. My cats have been raised around dogs so it's no big deal to them. I just don't want people to be like, "OMG a PITBULL!" Ya know?

If your dog has genuine papers that state SBT then hopefully that is exactly what you have and only an idiot could confuse the 2 dogs so that's how you handle it , you tell them they are an idiot . But let's not forget a Pitbull is also a very beautiful and people affectionate dog and it is unfair to brand them as undesirable but for lots of people that's how the world rocks

Congratulations you have an SBT and judging by the parents an incredibly good looking one (PS I've never seen an ugly one yet )

Yeah you will get the pitbull mistakes especially in America .. But just educate them on their silly mistake.. That's defiantly an staffordshire bull terrier

Welcome mum, dad and puppy are all beautiful. If people ask if he's a pitbull, just put them right. Unfortunately, some people are ignorant and it doesn't matter what you say, and in that case it's best to ignore them.
