Puppy with baby
So trying to convince the misses to let me get a SBT puppy but we have a 3 month old baby is this a good idea from experience? Thanks

Hiya
SBT have nick name nanny dog because of there exremly patience nature with children. If you check youtube there are loads of videos with children with SBT. Any dog can be dangerous if left in the wrong hands and not trained correctly.

Re: Puppy with baby
my Staffy is 6months now and we have had the same concerns as we are due a baby in January, we have had superhans from 2 months old and we we now have no concernsa at all as superhans will still be young and plyable when the baby comes and as we had him from a puppy we know there has been no abuse or issues which would cause us to be concerned about him around kids/babies so I would say as long as u get a SBT puppy then you can bring it up around baby no problems at all, just as long as you have the time to train you SBT and give it you time then cant see any issues

Colour makes no difference, just seek a good breeder, I only rescue but plenty here can point you in the right direction.

RPN - your missus has her hands more than full with a 3 month old baby, a house, and you to look after.
If I were her I would want your 100% assuarance that YOU will take care of the puppy and STICK to it - she has more than enough to deal with.

You are right to take your time and find the right pup. Best advice is to avoid all of the classified ad type sites such as Gumtree Pets 4 Homes etc and look toward sites such as Champdogs. Pay great attention to all the paperwork being in order and the correct health checks being in place , you can read plenty about it on her just take your time and browse around. Also to note if you are specifically wanting a Blue Pup they should not come from a Blue / Blue mating and you shouldn't be paying any more than another colour , around £600 is a good guide figure for a good healthy KC reg pup

Oh RPN - just WAIT for a while. Isn't a new baby enough for you and the missus to cope with right now?

Re: Puppy with baby
I have a 5 month old SBT pup and 4 kids (2, 4, 10 and 15 years!) my pup is great round the kids and other night even at his young age showed his nanny side by snuggling up with me and a very poorly 2 year old, he didnt move from her side the whole time she was cuddled up to me and even went to check up on her before he went to bed (licked her face through the cot bars whilst she was sleeping ) my point is yes pups can be hard work but soooo worth it in what they give back to you in love xx

Where is your area RPN , you don't say . Don't forget on Champdogs it's not just about today , you can see some of the breeders past litters and get an idea of what to expect , research the Sire and Dam and even contact the breeders to get put on waiting lists. If your heart is set on a Blue look at what the breeders have been charging before, a good breeder won't charge you any more for a blue than other colours and around £600 seems to be a benchmark these days. Ideally 2 black parents that might have blues, but at worst 1 black and 1 blue. I would avoid an imported dog, you will pay much more because of all the additional costs the breeder has and there are plenty of UK breeders to look to without resorting to Gumtree or Pets 4 homes etc, generally and not always , a good breeder will not support these sites , Champdogs breeders have to have certain things in place like KC registrations etc before they can join and advertise (health tests etc are not always guaranteed hence do your research) Anyone can advertise on Gumtree etc and tell you any old story

750 is a bit steep TBH but it's your money , just make sure you do all your research but timing is good and will let you get baby nice and settled hopefully

Only problem with white is the risk of deafness , Kazenzie seems to know the 2 breeders I know and would trust (just checked my FB) so if you get more interested let me know and I will do some digging , the 2 breeders I know are mainly Reds (and Pied) but as said earlier not sure of their future plans and 1 is in Bristol (but the other where we got Tommy from is Wigan, only Reds at the mo and not sure when the next litter will be but if it is an option I can ask)

They look good. They check for L2-HGA, but I'd check that they've done all the eye tests as well, though. They don't mention Hereditary Cataracts.

You can't be too fussy. If you're fussy you'll research more & not just jump in with both feet, regretting it later.
