Chasing tail and barking
Our dog Buster, chases his tail at least 10 times a day and it goes on for quite a while, whilst doing this he is constantly barking. Now my daughter is expecting her first baby in February, we would like to try to stop Buster from doing this before the baby comes along, please can anyone tell me how to stop this behavior?

Discourage it and give him something else to grab his attention, he'll soon snap out of it if you train him not too Xx

Hi Karen, how are you?
Is Buster getting plenty of exercise and mental stimulation? Sometimes tail chassing can be triggered by boredom or lack of exercise

It can also be OCD. The second he starts to chase his tail, you should physically stop him, say "enough" or something like that & treat him - maybe give him a game of tug. You should do that every time you see him start to tail-chase. I know it can look funny, but it can also completely take over a dog's life!
Is it actually his tail he's chasing, or is he just spinning?

Agree with Caryll. He could also end up hurting himself as well

Hi guys, thank you for your replies. He is actually chasing and barking at his tail, I think it is OCD as we can take him for an hour and a half walk over sand dunes and he'll still come home and do this

Re: Chasing tail and barking
If it's OCD you'll have to be quite vigilant & consistent - every time he does it, you'll have to stop him. If it's just a bit of playing you should be able to stop it quite easily by redirecting the play to a tug toy etc.
Dempsey will spin, sometimes for no reason at all, & will sometimes bark/growl etc while he does it and as long as it isn't more than 3 or 4 we let him do it, but when he was younger we stopped him every time because EBTs are known to have OCD problems. He doesn't chase his tail, though. That's why I asked if it was tail chasing or spinning - there's a distinct difference.
