eggs - Raw eggs? Cooked eggs? Empty Raw eggs? Cooked eggs?

Post by DragonTheStaffie Thu Dec 06 2012, 16:39

So I read online a while a go that raw eggs are good for dogs, as it contains a lot of protaines for the dog, but today I was searching online and I seen people saying that raw eggs aren't good, they said you had to cook it? But there's more people saying raw eggs are better?

Raw eggs are fine as long as they're fresh.

You can cook them as well, but you don't need to.

I normally feed Dragon in the morning at like 10, then after a while at like 2 in the afternoon I give him a raw egg on it's own and then at 5 feed again.

He eats, or should I say drinks the raw egg on it's own without a problem.

Raw is best but not to often as they inhibit the digestion of nutrients in normal food. I give both as a treat as they like rolling cooked about but love slurping on raw. Any egg with a lion mark is safe to eat raw for humans let alone dogs.

actually if they eat the white and yolk it nutritionally balanced and so can be fed as often as you want! Wink

yer that missed out the fact the yolk counteracts the whites and therefore fine to feed in larger quantities....

We gave Sophie a raw egg last year.
It was out in the garden, after patting it with her paw for a while she gently picked it up in her mouth and
ran straight indoors with it and cracked it open in the middle of the carpet in the living room before eating it. doh

The thing to remember with eggs is that the yolk contains a lot of cholestorol, so too many isn't a good idea. Two or three a week is fine.

I give Zeus a raw egg twice a week in his food, with shell. I also give him a bit of cooked egg too whenever I cook it for myself and have had no problems.

So what would happen if I gave him an egg everyday? What's the risk of doing it?

The only real risk would be that he'd get large cholesterol deposits!

there is no risk, i know people who give a number of eggs solely as a meal, they are quite fatty so as long as they have a good varied diet and exercise then it's fine Smile

A whole raw medium egg has 62 kcals. A 20 kg dog with moderate daily activity requires anything from 1000 to 1300 kcals per day so I think giving him an egg a day won't make him fat! Most cans of dog food are around 370 kcals as a comparison.
