what is the best way to keep dog and owner safe if a strangers dog attacks.?.
First topic message reminder :
I am wondering how i should go about protecting my dog if she is atacked agen ,
i have had people tell me allsorts of stuff about what to do but most of it sounds like old wives tails.
I was walking through a park and my dog kye was on the leed , another older bitch came runing up, it was runing free and starteed biteing at kyes side and and face so i pulled kye up to my legs and kept turning away from the attacking dog, i thought it wouldnt bite me as it was after kye , i was right ,it kept moving out of my reach but jumped back in to bite kye any chance it got, the owner of the other dog was just shouting at the dog from a distance , once i relized the owner of the dog wansent going to try and get her dog i had to get it away from me and kye so i kicked it in the gut a fue times , the owner soon came over and got the dog after i starteed kicking it , but my wee kye didnt have much of a chance she was one year old and had no idea what was going on ,
she thinks everything is a game and ive never seen her angry or agresive towards dogs or people.
so do you have any tips on the best way to stay safe and keep my dog as safe as posible if a dog attacks.

Didn't know about this corrector spray so I've just ordered some.... don't fancy the finger up the bum myself!
Only yesterday my dog was attacked by a big white fluffy Akita type thing, it was off the lead in a public place, my dog was on her lead as her recall isn't great. This dog came along with no owner in site and obviously towered over my little girl and started attacking her, I had no idea what to do apart from scream for the owner to come. When she did turn up we told her to keep her do on a lead and she just said she didn't need to..... we beg to differ!!!
Luckily my girl wasn't injured but she did have a go at defending herself even though she was on her lead!!!

Well, dogs can't 'lock' their jaws, it's physically impossible. But some (like the stafford) have extremely strong jaw muscles & it takes a lot to shift them!
The best way I've heard (apart from a break stick, which is only of use if there are two of you & you know how to use it!) is to twist the collar of the biting dog until it has to let go to breathe. You can also push the biting dog's nose into the other dog with the same result.

Heya Folks!! Hope every1 and their best buddies are good??? QUESTION: A few days ago I had a "run in" with a woman, she started shouting at me so I started shouting at her...BUT,when I started shouting Ruben started barking, not an aggressive bark, like a playfull bark and when the woman came closer to me and I pointed my finger while givin her a piece of my mind Ruben started jumping up on me...Im gutted, what have I done wrong for Ruben to act like that? His bark was def a playfull 1,but when he started jumping up on me I didnt understand, coz he doesn't do that even when we're playing. No other dog was around. Ive been racking my brains and can only come to the conclusion it's something Ive did in the past to make him react like that. Please,If any1 has ANY suggestions as to why he reacted in that way please let me know,as I feel Ive did something wrong to Ruben in the past???? Thanks:(

I've had this happen with three Dalmatians, the leader wearing a muzzle, along with a streak of pith for an owner letting them do what they liked. On the last incident with them they tried to shove Stanley into a ditch with a 6' drop. Not a word from the stain walking along without a care in the world 100 yards back. He now has walkers walking them. Another time when Stan was a pup a couple with a Chocolate Lab and Dobermann decided Stan was a chew toy and chased him under some bushes. I grabbed for the biggest branch i could find and only then did the bloke say "No need to hit em mate" "Well i can hardly bite them can i." I replied. The amount of selfish ignorance about sometimes can be unbelieveable. I do feel pity for the other dog in a way for having such a skid mark for a leader but i will also do whatever it takes to defend my family, 2 legs or 4. Regardless of what breed of dog you have you don't have any more right to freedom than anybody else. If you let your unsocialised dog off the lead and it starts a fight with someone else's that's your fault not theirs. Try the spray and see how you go.
Hopefully you'll never have to use it. I used one when Stanley was a pup as he used to love chew on ankles when not expected.

Sounds like Ruben was doing a Scoucers impression, "Alright alright calm down calm down eh eh eh" He doesn't by any chance have an 80s perm and moustache does he?
