I know I've posted about this before, but he's calmed down with the biting quite alot recently, but if anyone new comes in or we are walking out and someone says hello, he always bites!! It's getting quite annoying cause I feel like I don't wanna let people say hello just incase he bites too hard. I dunno what to do to make him stop it.

Train them to train him! Whatever you do to get him to stop biting (redirecting on to a toy etc) ensure that guests do too. Consistency is key!

It's so annoying when people come up and get in the way, isn't it! You could try asking people on a walk to wait back a bit as he is in training and them ask them to do whatever you do to calm him down, or distract him from people on he walk with treats/toys/commands.

That's a great suggestion above. Tell people that want to say Hello to him that he's in training and could they get him to sit and be calm before any contact is made.

Ah okay, I thought that you meant visitors to the home. Agree with Lisa, if it's whilst out you could also get a little "in training" vest.. a friend has one for her puppy and it's working well to stop people from touching without asking. You could also train him to sit whenever he sees people, but anybody interacting with him should be doing the same thing.

Love the training vest idea Rach! I wonder if it would work with my two loons  Laughing Usually when we're out the OH has both of their leads and people are forever racing up and into our space to love them - which of course gets them jumpy and worked up before we even have chance to calm them (keep in mind Vinny is just under 50kg so that's not fun). However, I've found that being aware, preempting this and always, always having treats or at least something of value in my hands like the ball thrower works great. We're lucky that we always walk as a family so if the OH has them, he gets them into a sit and I can step between them and approaching people;give the people treats and teach those people how to greet!

Ahh yeah thats cool, I'm always walking on my own with my son, or just on my own so it's difficult when people just bend down before I've had a chance to calm him down!!!

Only just noticed this post. I assume you mean mouthing rather than actual biting. Mouthing is a natural behaviour which they do when interacting with their litter mates. When it gets too rough the litter mate will often yelp and cease interaction. We found this worked for us with Bacchus. We would go " ouch" and turn away from him and stop any interaction. I can honestly say that this behaviour stopped within a couple of weeks.

Ergh just went for a walk and he did it again
...Made him sit down and calm down and when she went to stroke him he grabbed hold of her hand
hand....I'm getting refrustrated, he's doing so well with everything else but it is really getting irritating now, I really don't want him to end up biting properly!! We did the ouch thing and it didn't work at all...

He will get past this stage. At 11 weeks they are like babies exploring everything and everything is explored with the mouth. He has learned not to do it with you already which is good. I know it's hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel sometimes but it will come. I'd be very surprised if he goes on to bite someone with any aggression, it's just not in the Staffy nature.
