A good boarding kennel for Riley
Hiya can anyone recommend a good boarding kennel for me please , we are going skiing in January & the lady that usually looks after Riley can't have him this time as her husband has to go into hospital , Riley has never been in the kennels before so I'm anxious to find a good one , we live in the Nuneaton area !!

I only know the south, really, so I can't help, but I'm sure someone will be along to help soon!

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me
Sorry cannot recommend any kennels in your area, just did a quick search which came up with the list below. Maybe give some a call and go and have a look around:

Re: A good boarding kennel for Riley
well if you are prepared to travel , this one came highly recommended by my breeder
Apparently there are different levels of luxury and they are more than happy to take staffies, not cheap though
http://www.bluegrassanimalhotel.co.uk/
Northwich for you from Nuneaton would be about 1.5 hrs I guess

speak to your vets - they should have a recommendation list.

Re: A good boarding kennel for Riley
cant help with a kennel but having worked in boarding kennels for 6 years i can give you some advice:
- Only pick one that lets you see ALL of the kennels (not just big open ones with outdoor runs). If there is a building they won't let you into, its more than likely to be a set of smaller kennels that your dog will be stuffed into.
- Only go to one who will literally turn you away if you don't have kennel cough or vaccs up to date (at least 10days prior)
- Ask what age the walkers are, some younger walkers can't or won't be able to handle staffords
- Ask what method they use for turnout example are they let out in the pens for 30 mins then rotated or do they only geet out in the morning until the kennel is cleaned.
- Ask what heat they use and ask to see the heating/heaters
- If your dog is a bed shedder, ask if they are willing to use rags for a bed and make it clear you don't want your dog to be left with no bedding
- Ask how many walks a day, any less than two is unacceptable
- Ask what they use to walk and where they are walked (i.e is it on a choke chain on a road or round the carpark for 5 mins or is it on an extendable lead on a lawn/feild)
- Ask what food they are fed and if they have bowls that will not tip over for water.
- Ask are they allowed toys in the pens with them
I think im done...
