Some training progress today
Evening guys, just thought I would share a bit on how we doing with training and Dexter
He came to us knowing sit, and we think stay (can't tell if he already knew and was being selective with his hearing haha or if he just picked it up quick). We taught him wait by using it when we came to roads, dropping him a treat for standing still at the crossing (he had a habit of trying to lurch into the traffic, bit scary!). When it came to treats he would only do the beg thing without any command just automatically after sit (like the photo I posted of zombie dex ) but we wanted to try paw and lie down instead I don't think I would have chosen him to learn the beg thing had we had him from a pup, not sure why but anyway, it's taken us a week or so but he now knows lie down almost everytime, and will give both paws to you when asked. Lie down I thought would be a useful one, so really pleased. He seems to really enjoy training, his tail doesn't stop and it's been a godsend today to have some fun indoors as the rain is non stop here. Really enjoying it, and very proud of him

Well done Dexter, you clever lad.
I dont like to see dogs begging either. It's great to read when any training goes well and is very pleasing to know how well Dex is doing. Keep up the good work both of you

Thanks Kathy, I have learnt loads from the forum and it's a reassurance having it here. It's helped me stay calm I think as I can be as over enthusiastic as a staff myself, no wonder we have ended up with one in our family!

Re: Some training progress today
I am really enjoying this forum!
I have just started training Max. He didn't know any commands and doesn't even seem to know his name.
He will sit for a treat but when his lead is on he looks like he thinks he is in trouble and never wags his tail - I think something bad must have happened with a lead with his previous owner
I am trying to be consistent and praise him but it's hard work! I just hope one day he will enjoy the training and have a waggy tail!
Thanks for sharing your training experiences!
