Blood in stool
At the park and as usual Harley does a poo. When bagging it, I noticed there was blood on it. Also noticed it was harder than usual. I'm thinking he's a little constipated and had a little tear. Although, he has been a little on the quiet side today. Thoughts?

Re: Blood in stool
A trip to the vets is a must , keep your eye on his next stool if there is blood again then he needs a vet .

Re: Blood in stool
Was the blood dark or light? If it was light just keep an eye on him because it could be form being constipated and having to strain. This should pass in a day or too. The only cause for concern would be if the amount of blood increased.
If the blood is dark it could be a sign of a more serious problem and you should go straight to the vet.

Re: Blood in stool
The blood was bright red and was only on one end of the stool. Im quite sure it was from constipation as the stool was quite hard. I'll keep an eye on it and make sure I have a good look at the next stool.

Re: Blood in stool
I agree with jstaff. Just watch him for any signs of discomfort (excessive panting/inability to settle etc) and see what his next poo's like. You could try giving him a little offal to loosen him up.

Re: Blood in stool
If it's bright red, the chances are that it's coming somewhere from the rectum or lower intestines (most likely the rectum), so it probably is just due to constipation.
Either way, as others said, keep an eye on him and consult a vet if it continues, as worms can also cause blood in the stool.

Re: Blood in stool
I very much doubt it's worms, we are very vigilant with our worming meds.

Re: Blood in stool
Sounds like you know your dog quite well. Most likely, it's just because he was constipated then.

Just had a play with him for 30 mins. He seems fine to me at the moment but I'll be monitoring him very closely.

I'm hoping so, thanks for the advice.
