help with leave please!
Hello...i need some help please. when we were at puppy training we were told that to learn the leave command we had to say leave when the puppy had something they shouldn't and as soon as they drop it say leave and give a treat. sonic is really not doing too well with this, she steals things and then drops them outside her treat cupboard or just runs around and refuses to give the item up until she sees the treat....any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Keep at it, perseverance pays. Use Leave whenever Sonic has anything that she shouldn't then lots of praise and a treat when she does leave it. Try using a high quality treat like a small piece of cheese/small piece of sausage or whatever you call a high quality treat for Sonic.

We had to do a basic training exercise where you would hold an incredibly boring treat in one hand and tell the dog to leave, when she left it you would then give her a higher value treat held in the other hand. Swapping hands when the dog caught on

The way I taught my 2 was holding their fav treat in my palm, showing them... When they try to take it close ur palm n say leave. They back off,u open ur palm, they go to take it, u close ur palm n say leave, keep on doing this until they will sit and leave with ur palm open. My 2 learnt it very very fast.
I can get them to lay down and place a treat on their paw and they won't touch it till I say they can x

all i done to chaos was every time he took something that he shouldn't i said hi name the say leave i never gave him a treat if he took something then dropped it i only gave him the treat if he was going to take something and i said leave and he did that's when he got the treat because i saw it a if he took something then dropped it hes already done what he shouldn't that was a different command for that it was when he took something i said off or drop then he did and got a treat for that that was just what i done but perseverance is the key to any command or training
