Re: Age to leave mum
8 weeks minimum. Wouldn't leave it much past 10 weeks either as you want to get them socialised as early as possible also.

Re: Age to leave mum
3 months is too late in my opinion, the socialisation period in dogs is so small, if you've got other animals in the home/children etc it's best to get them used to than environment as early as possible - before 8 weeks is a big no no, however.

Re: Age to leave mum
Meant the maximum to be three months. A lot of people are breeding their dogs for money and don't care about the health of the dog

Re: Age to leave mum
8 weeks is good, hopefully still with the pups sibblings all together, too many pups leave to early just because the breeder wants to make the money

Re: Age to leave mum
Thanks all for your advice. Very helpful information. I would like to leave my pup longer but I know that my breeder isn't looking after the pups or his dogs properly and if I don't take my pup away soon I think there's going to be serious health issues. We had our last dog at six weeks old and he grew into one of the biggest Boxers around our area. I know the bloke is only after money as he's a bit of an alcoholic and I wish I knew this before hand but both parents are beautiful dogs and there are a lot of cross breeds around. Now that I know I can get some great help/advice on here I think our pup should grow into a healthy beautiful girl. Thanks again for all your help I really appreciate it.

Re: Age to leave mum
Oh dear. Would you consider reporting the breeder to the RSPCA?

Re: Age to leave mum
I would hope you'd Report this man..Its disgusting what he's doing and I'd hope your not paying for this pup either, your just putting money in his pocket, so he thinks if he does it again, he'll earn money..people like him don't need encouraging..your essentially paying for the next ill litter.
Report him.
Report him.

Re: Age to leave mum
I got my 6 year old staff when she was about just 6 weeks, the mum had stopped feeding them and it was hit and miss whether she would survive, but thankfully she did :-), before 8 weeks is too early, and I think 10 weeks istoo late.
