licking her wounds
should i let her lick them or discourage it?correct me please if im wrong but is'nt a dogs saliva a natural antiseptic?she wont let me bathe them now,she actual growled at me earlier when i tried so it must hurt her a lot.underneath her tail right near her anus is so red and swollen, looks like a baboons bum .some are still weeping a bit of bloody discharge too.

Re: licking her wounds
If you can stop her, then do. Their saliva doesn't heal & could aggravate any healing wounds. If it's really red & swollen I'd have a word the vet. The wounds really should be starting to heal now, poor thing.

thanks caryll,i did'nt know to stop her or not,she has got to go back to the vets on wednesday so they can see if the swelling is going down, all the tops of her back inside legs are red as well, could that be a dogs version of bruising ?she's a bit of a mess to be honest and is sleeping alot .

Re: licking her wounds
she's on antibiotics and anti-inflams,the vet warned us that it would take 2-3 weeks to heal as she was so swollen

Re: licking her wounds
Poor love, must be so uncomfortable, shes prolly better off sleeping, time to heal.
If anything I'd bathe it in tea tree, which is antiseptic, antiviral antifungal. But have an Edwardian lampshade collar on her during the day.
