stressed with pup
Hi everyone - im new here x
i havent always been a staffie lover (thru hearing stories) but after coming into contact with them over the last 3 years i am now a big fan and now own my own little staffie bitch. Now that i have chelsea im quite surprised at how loving and loyal they actually can be.
She is just over 6 mths and am having a difficult time with her at the moment. she is being sooo disobedient and doing out of charachter things and im getting rather angry and frustrated with her. I've done a little reading and it appears she might be going through the teenage yrs ???
If this is so im assuming this will pass soon enough ?? is there anything anyone can suggest in the meantime as she seems to be going back over i.e dirtying in the house, not listening to instructions and lost what we have trained her.
im almost pulling me hair out ha ha
thanks

Re: stressed with pup
They can really test your patience! Try not to get frustrated and just go back basic training again, she'll catch on again soon. Hi from us Xx

Re: stressed with pup
Welcome
You really just have to keep training her as you did when she was younger. Pretend that you have to start from the beginning again. Just be even more stubborn than she is, and be consistent. Try not to get angry or frustrated either, because they tend to get confused about that. If you're getting frustrated, take a moment to yourself to calm down and then go back to it again

Re: stressed with pup
Do what you'd do with any teenage girl , locke her up in her room until she decided to behave
No seriously it will pass and you will just have a beautiful little

Re: stressed with pup
Yes she is being the equivalent of a 15 year old teenager, and it will go on for some months - pushing the boundaries, finding out what she can get away with. As everyone has said, patience and consistence will see you through the "teenage" stage.
Regarding the dirtying in the house, I have been experiencing this with my own 10 month old pup. During the summer with the back door left open, he would happily do his "doos" in the garden. Now - it's wet and it's cold and he's a wuss about those things (it seems a lot of Staffs don't like wet in particular) and he will get away with relieving himself in the warm and dry if he can (and he can if my eyes are off him for 5 minutes!) The thing to watch here is that you don't get cross and shouty, otherwise she might just try to "go" in hideaway place.

Re: stressed with pup
They are unbelievably stubborn when they want to be aren't they?
I think they have setbacks at that age, Callie is 9 months now and a little better than she was at 7. But still will give me a look like, I know what you want me to do, I'm just not going to do it right now (as opposed to when she was a puppy and had no clue).

Oh this is so true! Like with our human babies, the time between childhood when they are so cute and adulthood when they have (hopefully) learned their lessons and how to behave is a stressful time. I don't think that it is a co-incidence that most Staffs in rescue are put there in their "teenager" time.
Stick with it, be consistent and patient and with any luck all will be well.
