advive needed, dog always hungry

I became the owner of a staffy about 6 weeks ago, its a bitch 3 years old, had her vet checked all ok, the only thing is she is constantly hungry, she will not eat dry food at all i have kept trying but she will not touch it, at the moment i am feeding her twice a day a full tin of dog food butchers each time, inbetween she will have flavoured dog treats. But as i have already mentioned she constantly hungry, she wont leave the kids alone if they got anything and i now have to leave her out of the room, we are constantly tripping over her if we are in the kitchen cooking etc, if she sees a tin of food she goes nuts thinking its for her, my floor never been so clean cos she constantly hoovering it with her mouth for bits etc, any help advice you can give me would be appreciated,

If she's on wet, be aware that a lot of wet's contents can actually be water.

If the remainder is mainly meat, then the protein will provide some satiety but it may be that she needs complex carbs and fats to slow the food's passage through her stomach and digestive tract.

What happens if you add something very smelly to dry food, such as stinky cheese, or the juice from a can of tuna? Or even a spoonful of cod liver oil?

Firstly I'd get her on a better quality food. Butchers, Bakers, pedigree chum, purina are amongst the worst to feed ur dog despite the fancy advertising.
Try something like Wainwrights trays (from pets at home) or Fish4dogs. Or Wainwrights dry with a splash of salmon oil for taste or natural yogurt to tempt her.
A hungry dog will eat eventually.

Most dogs will happily eat till the cows come he given the chance, make sure u are feeding her enough based on her weight, and adjust accordingly, the guidelines on tins or packets are just thst, a rough guide.

My 2 eat 1 and a half times the reccomrnded amount - because it suits them and their appetite.

Dont feed titbits, no matter how tempting, this will stop the scavenging when ur eating.

Worm her regular, excercise at least twice a day and she should be fine. X

thank you for your replies, i will and do make sure she is wormed properly, and i will change her diet and give the oil a try on dry food, will let you know how she gets on

For me I had a tough time with Moo at first and it has taken me 3 years to find a food that suited (fish4dogs) but I do have to add things like sardines to get her to finish, Royal Canine do a wet food which I mix with her dry, but for ratio 1 can lasts 3 days so 6 meals. Get her onto something better, and persist for a while.

With the begging, I always found training to stay& sit helped, Moo won't come into the kitchen, she could but she knows not to cross onto the tiles. Just took consistant training and getting everyone to do the same thing.

Its early days still, so time helps also

bar sitting and giving her paw when asked, it is quite evident she not had a lot of much else and quite use to having her own way, but I am the kind of dog owner who is firm but fair, and will hopefully with time and advice from the site be able to get her more trained and knowing her place in the household, will go the pet shop as soon as i am able i will try her on different food and will persist so she can get the proper diet she needs,

If giving cod liver oil, it should be an infrequent thing unless you buy cod liver oil that has had the vitamin a removed.

You're better off giving salmon body oil & a vitamin E supplement.

You could always use a baby gate to keep her out of the kitchen or eating area as well.
