Hungry dog
I would like to check that I am feeding my girl enough, she is almost a year old and weighs 23kg, and seems to be constantly on the hunt for food,, You can just about see her ribs on her side through her coat but only just..
She gets 450g of wainwrights kibble per day 225 in the morning and 225g in the evening and the odd extra egg or tin of sardines once a week.. she gets very few * bits but constantly hangs around whenever she thinks there is a chance of any food,
Am I feeding her enough ? and I am sure it is but is her behavior around food normal for a well fed dog.
Thanks for reading.

Re: Hungry dog
That does sound like a lot of kibble to me to be feeding her, I have just found the feeding giude below for Wainwrights adult food, a 23kg dog should be getting around 300g per day. How much exercise is she getting a day ?
Toy (up to 5kg) - 60 to 125g
Small (5-12kg) - 125 to 215g
Medium (12-25kg) - 215 to 335g
Large (25-45kg) - 335 to 650g
Giant (45-70kg) - 650 to 1100g.

Re: Hungry dog
To be honest, I've only ever used the guidelines as just that - guidelines. All dogs are different, and they all get different amounts of exercise.
If she's healthy, lively & happy and not skinny then you're giving her the right amount! Some dogs just love their food & will eat until they explode if you let them!

Re: Hungry dog
Thank you all, she gets varying exercise but around an hour a day, she just seems to be hungry all the time so I thought I would ask, she is defiantly not fat, but not boney either..
Thanks you have put my mind at rest.

Re: Hungry dog
How much should she have ? her exercise is varied from plain street walking, three sessions a day most days to beach running, ball chasing on the field and the very occasional, long hill walk.. she is an outside dog and we spend a fair bit if time playing, I also try to keep her mentally alert and also take her to work whenever I can.Dave wrote:An hour a day is not so much for her
How much do others give their dog ? molly is the first dog of my own so I am learning all the time
thank you

Re: Hungry dog
Rocky has an hour walk in the morning then another hour later in the day, hubby then takes him out later in the evening for about 30-45 mins. We will then have games and play during the day of about an hour in total usually hide and seek with some treats hiden in toys around the flat.

Re: Hungry dog
I think we all do the best we can in terms of exercise for our dogs but with work it can sometime be difficult. I take them out at 4 30 in the morning for an hour which also includes a good session chasing a ball. I then take them out for about an hour in the evening as soon as I get home from work, again ball chasing. Dave and Liam pop home twice a day to make a fuss of them and let them out. Week-ends try and do a bit more, taking them both out in the car, etc.
