fish4dogs new recipe
First topic message reminder :
I've seen this posted a couple of places else where. They have changed the recipe in most of the dry foods and have massively reduced the meat/fish content in them
Working dog salmon now consists of
Salmon (27%), Pea Flour (22%), Potato (23%), Fishmeal, Salmon Oil, Beet Pulp, Brewers Yeast, Minerals
etc
Just thought i'd post for those who feed it as a lot of people aren't impressed.
eta: i don't know what the old recipe was i'm just cross posting

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
I just feel so let down by F4D for changing the ingredients (why change things when their successfull !!).. Some of us on here will know how fussy staffys can be (an how long we can sit trawling through all the different dog foods, comparing ingredients, price, delivery) an when we finally find something that agree's with our dogs an eases allergy symptoms or eases upset stomachs, or improves their skin & coats, gives them solid poo's .. Then its very annoying when they just decided to change the composition of it...
Am seriously considering going back to Burns (when they have finished their F4D) as that was what Inca was having before we got Sky, might try their Salmon & Potato...

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
On further investigation have noticed Wafcol contains corn and BH doesn't but also has pea starch (going to try and find out how much) so could still be trial and error moving forward.

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
We tried some many brands and finally found the one for Debo and now that . I've just cancelled subscription on Amazon for the 12kg and ordered 1,5kg to seehow he's going to react. The guy at local shop recommended Burns? is it a good one for sensitive tummies?

Jaq wrote:vet suggested a look at Wafcol salmon and potato. His OH does trials in skin sensitivity and swears by it - any thoughts?
Just to my two cents, I used Wafcol for about a year for my kennel dogs that have loose stools or skin complaints and found it worked wonders.. mixed it with a little bit of tinned salmon for the dogs that weren't so keen on dry food and they lapped it up. We've now changed to Working Dog (salmon and potato) ((not sure why as they'd settled on wafcol )) and it seems to be working just as well on my dog's with sensitive tummies, but can't comment on the skin complaints yet as they haven't been on it for long enough. I've got 3 staffies in particular that have constant loose stools even on chicken & rice sensitivity diet and all are routine and solid on both wafcol and working dog

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
Good to hear Rachel. After much internet research, deliberation and enough mooching in Pets At Home to look like a shoplifter I finally settled on Wafcol S & P on saturday. Lola's already on half and half and scoffing it down with good hard stools this morning.

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
It sounds promising. If Debo'll react badly on new f4ds ,will give it a try. And price is not bad ,found 15kg s&p for 42,99 with delivery.

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
I stopped using Fish4Daogs when they did this change and started using Simpsons Fish and Potato.
Very disappointed they changed the recipe as I was very keen on the quality they were before and our dogs loved the food.

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
The quality is rubbish now, I feel cheated as I had already bought and opened 50kgs of it, definately going to change now they have almost finished the bags.

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
Its not rubbish, I think I was a bit harsh yesterday (v. stressful day!). It is still a good food but the amount that I get out the other end isn't consitant with what it was before. The pea flour makes their stools very loose. When my bags up I'm going to give wainwrights a try

We didn't have problems with Wainwrights before , it was just they got bored so we swapped to what we though was for the better , I did notice the input / output balance has changed for the better since we swapped back. There are quite a few flavours to choose from with the wainwrights too and it is very easy to just pop out and get a bag on the day

If it works for you then great , I still feel a bit aggrieved that we looked into it so much as a good food and a good company on here then they went and did thisSteve wrote:my dogs not having loose poos

Re: fish4dogs new recipe
it still 1000s time better then the * supermarket crap, it's not wise to keep changing your dog food all the time
Re: fish4dogs new recipe
no great problem for me its only the 2nd time I changed it and even then it was back to what we had before
