Stag bone ?
Took Duke to pets at Home this evening bought him a medium stag bone to help him with the teething , whilst we were waiting at the till one of the staff gave him 3 or 4 treats they were yellow biscuits .
So we get home and i introduce Duke to his Stag Bone he is on it straight away and seems to love it , after about ten mins he leaves it, he then starts bombing round the house at breakneck speed biting anything he could sink his teeth into my, wife Gill got it in the leg , i stop him and took him into the garden .
In the garden he was once again hypo he found a small plastic plant pot ran round the garden at speed then ripped it to bits . i did not stop him and decided to let him carry on and tire himself out he went on for another 5 mins then came into the house, he dropped straight onto his Stag Bone and calmly began to chew it, 5 mins later he was asleep and still is in fact he is snoring like a gud un .
Has anyone else experienced this hypo behavior with a stag bone ? or does anyone think the treats at PAH sent him hypo ? he has never been like this before and we feed him on James wellbeloved .

Re: Stag bone ?
we buy the big bags of coloured biscuits from PAH as the dogs love em and they are cheap but never had a problem, it's not like Tommy is mental and eats phones or anything ......................................

Re: Stag bone ?
Tommy has a stag bar , really don't think it's anything to do with it , staffy pups do have a mental streak, apart from Tommy who just has an evil one

Re: Stag bone ?
Gill just said maybe he was excited he was pampered in PAH by a good few people , then came home and got his stag bar so maybe he was very happy .

Re: Stag bone ?
try him with it tomorrow and see if you get the same result then you know for sure, attention can make them hyper for definite but maybe only short lived

Re: Stag bone ?
The Pets At Home treats do contain additives though, don't they? Perhaps that sent him a bit wild. That said, Loki's eaten them before and he wasn't any more energetic than usual. Maybe it was just an exciting experience for him? They do go a bit crazy and have mad moments sometimes even my Boxer when he was old and grey, if something excited him he'd run around like a lunatic and go crazy for a while.

Re: Stag bone ?
I thought running around like a crazy dog was normal haha. Sky does it at least once a day! She has a stag bar too and i dont think that contributes to it. Sky usually does t after a bit of excitement, after a bath, after a play upstairs, dogs walking past the window, after a play in the garden or after a walk etc

Could just be a burst of energy as well. Suki gets them all the time but even more so when she was a pup

Re: Stag bone ?
ruby too has these mad moments and has been known to do a 'wall of death' around the living room bouncing off walls/radiators/doors as she goes. shes also like this if we have been out for a walk, out in the car, its like shes super happy to be home off the lead and goes nuts

Re: Stag bone ?
Maybe it happened because he's teething? Debo did that few times when he was teething. We were on the sofa,Debo on the floor chewing his toy and the without the reason he just jump on my lap( spilled my drink ),bite my OH ,of the sofa, did the mad dance and got back to his toy like nothing happened.

Re: Stag bone ?
Funnily enough, Bailey got a couple of treats in P@H and it sent him loopy for a bit it's happened a few times with coloured treats aswell, so he doesn't get them now as a 21kg ball of muscle and Staffy head isn't great flying round the room into your legs

Re: Stag bone ?
I doubt it was the stag bar. The treats? Quite possibly, different dogs react differently to certain additives.
But it's probably more a mad 10 minutes - they do get them. Just get out of his way & let him get on with it (as long as he can't hurt himself on anything!).
Dempsey used to do that all the time as a pup - imagine, a large, well muscled EBT hucklebutting around the house, literally bouncing off the furniture & walls for 10 minutes twice a day!

Re: Stag bone ?
It's more likely to be the treats than anything else he had eaten. Rocky also has those little mental moments, dont stress about it. The stag bar is completely natural so would doubt it was that.

Re: Stag bone ?
Don't worry about him not being interested in it, Lola does the same, will ignore it for a day or two, then go all out on it. She's never had a mental ten after chewing it, and she doesn't like the PAH coloured treats (she takes them on her teeth, drops them on the floor, and looks back up at you) she's a gravy bone kinda girl

Re: Stag bone ?
Kuchar isn't too keen on his stag bone unfortunately (no wonder they last a long time - hardly ever played with LOL).
BUT - he is ALWAYS - but ALWAYS - hyper in the evening. We get the zoomies (love to watch him, round and round like the wall of death) and we just stay out of his way and let him get on with it.
should be grateful I suppose that this doesn't happen early in the mornings - I couldn't stand THAT - but why the evenings? Reminds me of when my humans were babies, the "evening wind" we called it then - bawl bawl bawl. Now it's bark bark bark (play with me, play with me).
Does anyone else get this "evening hyper" ?
