Bailey went "mad" at puppy
I am concerned about my Bailey, who I have only had 5 weeks now (Rescue dog, now 11 months old and not neutered as yet)
I have been so proud that he is so sociable with both people and other dogs, has never shown aggression, even when some dogs have taken a dislike to him, he seemed puzzled by their behavior.
So it was a huge surprise when we meet a friend with his 3 months old boxer (male). As soon as Bailey saw him he started barking/growling, straining at the lead. My partner had him on lead-thank god, as im quite sure he would have attacked.
We-not sure what to do, marched him home, we are not sure if this was the correct thing to do and any advice appreciated.
Also some one has suggested that we walk the dogs together (obviously not close enough for Bailey to get to the pup) I would not make such a big deal about this but the boxers owner is a good friend who I would love to go to park/ woods ect with our dogs.
Any advice welcome

Walk them close together (but just far enough apart that neither is reacting to the other) until they're knackered.
Then sit down somewhere with the owner of the other dog for a chat.
When both dogs are lying down resting, allow them a little more lead space.
You might be surprised and find that they will tolerate each other at that stage.

Just a thought - how did your friend greet you?
Was he/she shouting, walking quickly/running, approaching you in an "overly confident" way?
Dogs pick up on that, too.

Did you notice that either dogs were staring at each other?? A dog will see this as a challenge as of course take offense.
I have notice that our dog Rocky doesn't like boxer dogs either and will always grumble at them, have put this down to how their eyes are set, can look like they are always staring ???

Re: Bailey went "mad" at puppy
I would do a version of what working dog said. I'd get your friend to walk with you & Bailey, but with both dogs on the outside until they are calm. Then move one in between you & your friend, when they're calm & happy with that try walking them both in between you.
When they're both knackered, stop & let then interract!

This is the route I would go as well

I'm sure I read somewhere in research that Boxer dog's are the most difficult dogs for other canines to read and generally don't get very good reactions from others? I may be wrong but I'm sure I read that somewhere!!
Agree with the others advice too

Re: Bailey went "mad" at puppy
There's a German Shepherd Loki sees often, named Kara, and she often barks at other dogs. She doesn't attack them but she gets snappy. Anyway, me and Kara's owner walked her and Loki round the field a few times, and she eventually started barking and they were able to walk very close together perfectly. She still barks at him when Loki's playing with the dog she's always with, but that's mainly out of jealousy. So walking them could help a lot, I think.

When we meet them the pup was lying down at my friend’s feet as they were waiting for a lift. My friend never shouted or anything, infact we never even got the chance to say hi, before Bailey started as soon as he spied the boxer.
But thank you for the replies, I will arrange a walk and see what happens-fingers crossed.
