First topic message reminder :
Hi guys,
My boy Harley is now 6.5 months old and is growing, growing, growing. He looks a little gangly at the moment but I am sure he will fill out. One thing that I have noticed is that his head is not growing proportionately with his body. When he was a pup, his head was well proportioned with his body but it seems his body has all of a sudden hit a big growth spurt but his head is not really keeping up. I had a good look at his parents and his father was a big boy with a big head, and his mother although feminine had a decent head too. Now Harley does not have pedigree papers, the people who we bought him from owned both parents and they gave us copies of parents pedigree papers so we can see the bloodlines.
Harley was desexed at 4 months, our vet from the RSPCA recomended it based on their practices and Harleys behaviour at this age. He was humping everything and was continually trying to be dominant over my young boys, humping them and growling at them.
Could desexing at this early age have affected the development of his head? Either way, I love my boy and would not swap him for any other dog....... Just want to get everyones opinions.
PS there are some pics of Harley posted in the introductions section.

Lol, yeah they are like movie stars so may as well accessorize them accordingly, very popular breed.

Re: Head size
I would just like to say thank you for this post. I knew nothing of the head-spillting myths until someone came up to Molly at 15 weeks and said she'll have a huge head when her skull splits etc. I hadn't a clue what he was on about!
Thank you one and all

Re: Head size
And eeeuw the skull-splitting myth is one of the worst. I first had heard of it when we got our puppy and lots of people talked about his skull splitting. It made me feel sick then and the phrase still makes me feel sick now, even though I investigated very quickly and found that OF COURSE the bones don't come apart, and it is just the development of muscles.
I really hope that this myth is laid to rest soon.

When Loki went to puppy classes, one of the trainers was telling us that a great way to stop people being narrow-minded when they see a Staff is to put something colourful or funny on them. She had a Rasta-colour bandana for one of her dogs and everyone was going on about how great he was, so makes sense.
Oh, and Harley (and his parents) are absolutely gorgeous

Re: Head size
Marleys head has only just started to muscle up at 14 months. Its one of the last things to develop on him. Dont worry about proportions in puppies as they grow at bizaar rates, laskas rear legs are nearly the same as marleys but her front is about 2" shorter lol
