Soooo impressed with Charlie today!
I took Charlie out to the field today and decided to let him off lead as his recall at home is perfect and there were no distractions around. We were playing with his ball when a group of lads came down with a football. Charlie started over to them but as soon as I called him, he came back. About 5 mins later, a dog came on to the field off lead at the other end. Again, charlie started over, but came back as soon as I called. On the way home, he stayed off lead going through the lane. A staffy was barking at him through a gate. Charlie went over for a look, but followed me when I called him and walked away. He's learning the stay close command and doing really well. I'm absolutely gobsmacked at how good he is and how well he's picking up on the training considering he's only 15 weeks old. I'm one proud owner I can tell you

Nice one Charlie!! They learn so fast and carry on doing it, although don't think Moo could have resisted the football

I thought that was what would've undone Charlie. Honestly I just cant believe how well he's doing. No accidents day or night for the last few days and today's walk was fantastic. I'm soooo proud and pleased with him. He's asleep at the mo but when he wakes up I'm gonna give him a nice bone and some sausage. He deserves it

Re: Soooo impressed with Charlie today!
He's huge isnt he? Would you believe, on his walk yesterday, I had a man ask me if he was a border collie, because of his colours, um, arent they black and white? A lady asked me if he was a cairn terrier and another older woman told me he cant possibly be a staff cos of his colour and believe me she stood there and argued with me about it telling me I should speak to his breeder cos she obviously lied to me! All on the same walk! I mean what the hell? Any idiot can see he's a staffy! Some people make me laugh!

WOW go charlie... well done to you both on that hard work paying off.
I let holly off the lead the other day at the lake.. but we had Titan with us.. so she followed him.. when we called him she just followed.. i praised her and she is slowly learnign to come when called.. I know if there were kids or anyone around she would have gone over for a play lol
we are getting there slowly
You must be so proud of him Shontelle... well done for all that hard work patience x

Cheers Mel, I'm really chuffed. They all get there eventually, as long as we take the time to do the training. It always astounds me when I meet dogs that are six or seven months old or older and dont even know the basics like sit and lay down. Those owners are just so lazy and yet complain that their dogs are playing up. It really frustrates me. I have alot of demands on my time at the mo but always make time for walking and training and playtime with Charlie. I dont understand anyone who gets a dog and cant be bothered to train it.

Re: Soooo impressed with Charlie today!
I have to agree... although like i have said in past posts.. I am guilty of not understanding a dog.... buying one and putting it in the yard and thinking it will "train" its self
But lucky there are forums like this one and I did alot of reading prior to Holly coming home... made life alot easier on her and I.
there should be more Info from breeders when people are picking a pupppy i think

Re: Soooo impressed with Charlie today!
Well I made a few mistakes with my first dog and learned from it and thats why Charlie is as well trained as he is. We all make mistakes, but as long as we dont keep repeating them, its ok. Charlie has taught me loads that I will put into practice when I get him a friend. One thing's for sure, I couldnt be without a staffy now. I cant believe that this time last year I said I would never get a staffy. I'd have a whole pack of them if I had enough time and space and money!

I have to agree with you there. Some breeders are brilliant & will sit & talk with you for hours, before & after you've bought your pup, giving advice & just listening to how you're getting on, others don't want to know once you've paid your money.
