chewing other dogs?
when marley meets another dog he will have a sniff and then proceed to try and grab its ears and bite its neck he doesnt growl at all, i try to stop him but he just run's in circles around me trying to get the other dog does this mean he's going to want to fight with other dogs all the time? he's been brought up really well but as soon as he see's another dog he's off like a shot, when i was at puppy training the woman said he's just rough playing but he doesnt seem to be growing out of it, any ideas?

i think i agree with the trainer, they play really rough. but that said, try and make sure he knows what is to much as it can turn into agression as they get older and the other dog realises they arnt puppies any more and thinks its an actual challenge!! but dont worry yourself too much!!

Re: chewing other dogs?
ive always been told to never use aggresion towards your dog by many people but when he gets to rough and i need to step in and tell him thats enough and to carm down the only way he will listen is if i give him a smack on the bum i dont mean a proper hard smack but a firm tap and a point of the finger and a clear firm NO is the only way to carm him down and this goes for when he's trying to chew me or any other person when he gets worked up and needs a calm down is this ok as i wouldnt want to make him worse in the long run

Re: chewing other dogs?
well im sure some people would tell you off in public for a completely innocent tap as i have had that before (sid tried to snatch a toy from my girlfriends little boys hand who is only 5,so i gave him a little nudge with my foot and got told off by an oldie) but if thats what it takes then thats what it takes! as long as you know the difference between telling them off and being cruel!! dont use aggresion but be firm and i think all will be well.

They do play rough so make sure he knows your the boss, I wouldn't even give a firm tap, although on extremes I have and will do. He is really young and is learning too. Wouldn't worry, just be firm and make sure he can stop with your say so vocally.

oh no id never be cruel to him ever he's the best thing that ever happened to me but i no what you mean by being firm and it is the only way he will listen because if i just stand there saying no he doesnt listen at all the little sod but once he's had a telling off he's great and just bomb's it round with the other dogs

Re: chewing other dogs?
he will understand eventually and when you say no he will get it. when i go to my parents now my dad is a sod for winding him up but i can be out of the room and still know when he is getting to excited and say "ah" and he will stop instantly!! so dont worry you will get control!!
