Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
First topic message reminder :
Constance arrived at www.homes4dogs.co.uk in a very frightened state.
She shook and cowered for the first few days but is now beginning to come out of her shell thanks to her kennel mate and the efforts of staff and volunteers.
She is a little wary of people still - particularly men - but we hope that she will learn, in time, that life is for living and there's nothing to be scared about.

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
No Ralph.
No any dog.
She had a great walk and sniff and run about in her little winter coat, and didn't really want to come home.

She is so cute, she seems to be thriving, have you still got Sausage?

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
Sausage is now Mattie and has been adopted by a forum member from here.
She's apparently settled in well now, eating well, and dishing out the staffy love.

Can't help it if I'm fostering a cutie.
Took the little polar bear cub down to the park earlier - for the first time I can remember, there was no-one there.
The snow looked completely undisturbed - not a footprint.
So, we had several sq kms to ourselves.
I let her loose off the lead, then promptly tripped and went flying, which Constance took as commencement of some game or other.
Off she went, like a greyhound, round and round in ever increasing circles, leaping and spinning about, and having the time of her life.
This may well be the first time this girl has ever experienced total outdoor freedom.
We ended up going miles, her in her little winter coat, me in my leaky boots filled with melting snow.
Back home now, snuggled up together. I'm getting the odd ear lick and plenty of hand licks to say "thanks, foster dad."

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
Yes Keith she certainly is a cutie, and your story with her running in the snow is heartwarming (sorry you fell over though!)
Surely such a lovely dog will find her forever home soon.

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
We're going again at 7am tomorrow morning, so will take my video camera.
Two weeks ago, this little one disliked leaving her rescue kennel and would sit down about 10 metres from it and refuse to go anywhere.
It's just lovely seeing her gain confidence and watch everything slot into place as she realises the big world is nice to explore and people won't hurt her.

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
Sooooooooooo,
We didn't get to the park at 7am.
Foster dad slept in.
But we did get to a field around 12pm.
And Constance had some fun.

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
Constance continues to find her feet.
I dropped a plastic cup in the kitchen earlier and immediately heard a gruffly little bark followed by some urgent doggy foot steps.
She rushed into the kitchen, then stood there, legs shaking a little as if to say: "Now, what do I do? I actually did a bark."

I think she was checking that foster dad wasn't being attacked by a giant plastic cup.

Re: Constance - English Bull Terrier cross
I would say she's now ready for rehoming.
Just a little more crate training to do but we're essentially there.
She's also learned what toys are and how to play, which is lovely to see, even if she does chuck the Kong rubber bone at my computer.

Her confidence is improving and she can manage the occasional relaxed expression, too.
that's a much happier looking face
when they shake & quiver like it that
goes though me to think what they've been though

She nannies all my fosters, directing them to their beds and showing them the rules of the house.
Here she is, checking on a recent foster who has since been rehomed.

Ah, well, there was a running joke at the rescue apparently (only found out last night ) that I was deliberately avoiding the phone whenever someone rang to express interest in her Madamness.
This is not true - I just live in a very low signal area.
Anyway, she got a key to the door a few months ago.
Have now finished my MSc study, so going back to work shortly.
Should have more time to get online.
