can i walk her too much?
Hi everyone, We have adopted cassie 2 weeks ago, She is 2 years old and very lively ,We love to walk her 2 or 3 times a day and at weekends we walk her about 8 miles and again in the evening. My problem is i was walking with cassie and another sbt owner said i was cruel because she looks under weight,i tried to tell him we had just got her and the vet says she is healthy and weighs 14+ kg,so he said i must be walking her too much and it helped his case because she is wearing a cone at the moment to stop her scratching a infection on her leg(that was left over from being left outside) so that was my fault too.Am i wrong to want her at her ideal weight well toned and not fat and round.or should i just punch him (not really,i wouldn't lower myself)so anyway am i walking her too much?sorry i have been so long winded, Dave

Re: can i walk her too much?
Just tried to reply to this and got the thread doesn't exist.
Ignore him, Staffies need exercise as they are high energy dogs. They also need more food the more exercise they do so make allowances for that, bit like us, the more energy we use the more food we need.
Don't forget her mental exercise, that is also very imortant, clicker training is very good for exercising their minds as it lets the dog work things out for herself and the 3 cup game is also very good along with many others. Many owners forget to exercise the brain.
She is very lucky to have an owner who can walk her like that.

If the vet says she's ok for her weight then i'd ignore him. All dogs are different and bitches tend to be smaller. My Obi was 14.2kg last week when weighed and he's 5 months!
To be honest there is nothing worse than seeing a staffie carrying weight they should look muscular not fat.

At 2 years of age you can walk her all you want and she will be happier for it.

At her age you can walk her until she's had enough (maybe never! ) and as long as she's getting enough food to cover the exercise there's absolutely no problem at all! I'd like to bet that the other SBT owner has a fat dog!
P.S., she looks a real beauty!
