Bit of a Biting Problem
So, Loki hardly ever bites us now. The only times he's bitten me recently have been by accident when playing tug-of-war and he...clamps down on my hand instead of the toy . Anyway, the problem is that when he meets strangers or people outside of the immediate family (people he doesn't see often), he'll jump up and bite and whatever. Plus, his jaws are no doubt getting stronger now, so this can be a huge problem, especially since not everyone will understand (or care) that he's doing it out of excitement and play, not aggression. I don't really know how to handle it though; I can't teach him not to do something when he never does it to me. Course I tell him "no" and pull him away and make him sit till he calms down when he does it, but he's just such an exciteable puppy he gets so carried away. Any advice on how to handle it would be really appreciated.

the only thing I can sugest is keep him on a lead when you have guests or he greets someone outside, until he calms down enough to be fussed properly. At least then you can be one step ahead & if he looks like he's going to jump up & grab you can stop him.

My girl can be bouncy with ppl out of pure excitement and her desperate love of attention.
I have her sit, and sometimes crouch down beside her holding her collar firmly so she can't jump. Once the initial excitement has worn off she tend to be ok and a lot calmer.

Re: Bit of a Biting Problem
i know exactly how you feel on this one my dog is exactly the same, i have tried bending down holding his harness to keep him low but he still manages to find fingers. honestly the best advice is some wich i recently recieved and seems to be working and that is, if you have family coming to you home or you to there's or even in the street ( best with family and friends as its difficult to ask strangers to do lol) let your dog great them but if he jumps up or bites ask them to turn away from him and cross their arms, when he calms down try again see if he jumps and bites, if he does do the same thing again. Basically its supposed to teach them that if they jump and bite they won't get any attention. but also make sure if he does stay down give him lots of praise. hope it helps you
