I think we have a problem
So my boy is 11 months old, but he is little bit afraid from other dogs?! Not from all but there are some dogs which are very scary for him, he is very playfull and had never shown any agression, just few times when he was atacked he defendet himself, but in most of the times he's just running away? Is this because he is too young or i have to take care about this problem? I don't want him to be agressive, but i have to defend him every time when another dog wants to bite him! My little boy ))

Re: I think we have a problem
Is he onlead when you walk? All dogs are different, we have members that have to keep dogs onlead and be aware of other dogs or like Moo who is disinterested in other dogs.
You always have to be aware of you dogs body language and if you learn that most of the battle is over.
Socialising with dogs you know can help to read the behaviour

Re: I think we have a problem
I know his body language perfect, i walk him onlead and without lead, he is not afraid from all dogs, he always goes to the other dog, smells him and want to play, but when another dog atacks him he rarely defends, prefers running away? We are very close, the dog is listening to every word i'm saying and never tryed run away, i'm just wondering why a strong dog like him chooses runing instead of fighting? He is socialized, every morning 2 hours play with me, 40 minutes with dogs, night 1 hour plays with me 30 min with dogs...crazy boy

Re: I think we have a problem
I wouldn't worry, Moo picks and chooses who she will play with, and by running away this is probably his game, teasing

Please have a look at the link below regarding a dogs body language just to make sure you are reading things correctly. Can you get the behaviour video'd?:

Re: I think we have a problem
All dogs when attacked will choose an option. Some like yours will choose to run (flight) It is more to do with the dog itself than what breed it is. So you will get plenty of big powerbreeds who will run from toy breeds.
I personally don't think it's a bad thing as it's not like he goes out on his own, you are always there to defend him when needed

I can realy read very well the body language of my dog, I've been reading a lot for dogs, red 4 books, have experience with dogs, but I don't think this is normal, when somebody atacks you to run away, may be this is just the way he is....I hope this is because of the age....
thank you all for the oppinions ))

Re: I think we have a problem
There's nothing wrong or abnormal with a dog choosing flight instead of fight, that's just the way some dogs are.

I agree with Shontelle. It certainly isn't abnormal & your dog is still dry .uch a pup! Much better to run away than get involved in a fight!

It's better than him grabbing the other dog which is unfortunately the way my boy deals with scary dogs

What do you mean "you hope its his age"
The way i'm reading your posts ... you want a dog that will tolerate other dogs, but if they start on him he beats the crap out of them and then you and the dog run off leaving a wounded dog and the police now looking for an irresponsable owner with an out of control dog

I prefer my dogs to choose the run option

Your dog is still very much a puppy at 11 months (12 months now), but surely it's better for all concerned if he doesn't react at all? That way you can protect your dog & he will not get into trouble for fighting!
