6 1/2 months old and misbehaving! Empty 6 1/2 months old and misbehaving!

Post by Nor Cal Wed Oct 03 2012, 21:38

My little guy has made so much progress up to 6 months and now I believe I am starting to hit the "teenage" years everybody talks about. Within the last week Bacon has done the following things that he has never done or only done when he was 8-13 weeks old...

Back to biting when he does not want to do something you ask him.
Pee'd on my bed
Peed on the couch
Took a couple nice fat poops in the house after refusing to go outside!
Chewing on the corner of my walls
Refusing to walk when we go out for walks

Not this again!! I'll take it back to the beginning with training! at wits end

Oh dear Laughing. Sorry for laughing, but hey, I'll be going through it soon myself, so you have my support. I guess just go back to the basics. As stubborn as he'll be, you have to be even more stubborn Big Grin that's the only way to get through this darkness with your soul intact Laughing

I try to laugh at it as well... Not funny in the moment, but now that I'm writing this i'm laughing myself. What's even more funny is his look of defiance when he does mis-behave. If he had a middle finger i'm sure he'd be flipping me off with it, especially after he pee'd on my bed and looked back and stared at me as if to say, "Yea i'm peeing here, what are you gonna do about it"?

So glad too hear others going through this, Caley is 6 months and has started biting again and has piddled twice this week on the floor, I thought it might have been because she had her op and is still not allowed out yet so is full of energy, but maybe its the teenage years arriving... Sad I don't want my lovely little girl to behave like an annoying teenager..I already have one of them at home Big Grin

so exactly when does it pass?

Callie 8 months and more stubborn on walks, about bugging us at the dinner table (for which she is escorted to her crate across the room and popped in their with a chewy), about refusing to go out in the rain (I dread winter). I figured it was teenager behavior.

Oh yeah, how could I have forgotten dinner time. As soon as we sit down for dinner, he goes to the backyard door and whines as if he needs to go to the bathroom. Then I would stop eating take him out and he would run around like it was play time! The little bugger fooled me a few times, but not anymore!!!

Stubburn and Smart they are. A tough combo to deal with for sure.

OMG. had Bacchus 11 days and exhausted and got all this to come at wits end at wits end

He gets his 2nd shots a week today then at least another week before we can go walkies to tire the little sod out.

Have enrolled him in puppy classes starting 30th October will this help soften the impact of teen tantrums?? silly

Good luck with Bacchus Reuben! Don't worry, just when you think you can't take it anymore with training they get it. Then you get 1 or 2 months when you think training is over and let your guard down and then you'll get to where i'm at!!!

Oh dear, this brings back memories Laughing

I know it's not funny for you guys while you're going through it, but honestly, in about 12 months time (yes, they usually start calming down by 18 months), you'll be looking back on this and laughing.

I quite often go back through my 'Bad boy Charlie!' posts and laugh.

Just hang in there, it will get better, and it will be so worth it Love Struck

My girl may have hit the terrible teens earlier than most because around 4 1/2 months old, after she seemed PERFECTLY trained and had me puffing my chest out in a sort of 'Yeah, no big deal, she's just my progeny, move along' way, she was doing exactly what yours is doing now. The worst part was while she was peeing and what not she would actually LOOK at me and then sit there as if waiting for it to be cleaned up. I simply took her straight back to basics but became more harsher in my tone of voice and training (I'm not a dog abuser, before you ask, but I do believe there should be a healthy balance of respect and not quite fear but apprehensiveness). Within a week or so she was back to perfectly behaved and has been that way ever since. THANK GOD, because I was seriously afraid new floors were going to be in my future if she carried on.

I am glad I am not going mad & not the only one thought it was just him, my boy turned 6 months last Saturday, since then he has been a devil, started biting again, jumping up, ignores everything I say, just looks at me as if I'm talking total rubbish, refuses to move when walking, pinning himself too floor, his recall has gone totally out the window, runs about 100mph across field to spot any dog he can & looks at me as if I'm mad when calling him back, peed on floor etc etc, hopefully we will all get though the other side, it will be worth it Smile

Well im pleased to know that the terrible teenage years are not just happening in my house!!!
Bow is getting so naughty and has taken a fancy to school uniforms! She WILL NOT walk on her harness however attaching a lead to her collar and she will walk like a dream! well she will walk on a loose lead for me and pull like crazy for anyone else!! And Defiance, seriously her attitude stinks on times - just like a normal teenager!
All that said she has become pretty "clingy" and wants to cwtch in at every opportunity - is that normal?

Well Caryll arent you lucky that you have passed this stage - please reassure me that this is just a phase and Bow is just trying to get the alpha status, (which incidently is not going to happen as there is a queue)!!!
Honestly love her puppy stage and I dont want to wish her to grow up before her time but I feel pretty bad that im constantly correcting her behaviour so I worry what poor Bow is thinking!
