mouthing vs muzzel ,
hi ive got a 2 year old staffie bitch ,
she mouths alot and ive tryed all the normall things to get her to stop like turning away from her and ignoring her when she dose it , and when she was younger she stoped it compleetly becouse i always made a noise as if she hurt me and moved away from her when she mouthd so she stoped it ,
in the last 8 weeks or so shes been doing it to stangers and me ,
she has compleet control of her mouth and when she mouths you cant feel anything as she dosent bite atall ,
she opens her mouth when poeple reach over her to pet her and she puts there arm in her mouth but dosent bite .
i can be quite scary for people as they think there going to get bite .
dose enyone think i should muzzel her for a while so she gets used to interacting with people without mouthing ?.
i think shes trying to be smart as she knows shes not hurting enyone so she thinks she can mouth all she wants, and i stop her as soon as see the signs of her going to mouth , and ive told every one agen not to let her mouth .
she dosent do it every time somone pets her its only when shes realy exiteed . she dosent do it when playing either so if enyone has any ideas how to stop her mouthing or any info on anything i can do to help her stop it will help loads .ty bye from us.

Re: mouthing vs muzzel ,
I would go back to the basics and ignore her when she does it with sounding hurt. She may have great bite inhibition but mouthing can be very scary for strangers.

It's funny tbh, ppl always automatically go to pet a dog on the back of it's neck. They shouldn't, it's one of a dogs most sensitive areas.
Ideally u hold ur hand in front of the dog and instinctly the dog would move it's head towards ur hand if it wants to be fussed.
I wouldn't muzzle her, I'd go bk to basics and the loud sharp yelp if she mouths you. If anyone comes to pet her tell them not to as shes in training.

No, I wouldn't muzzle her either. Go back to what you used to do & ask others to do the same.

Re: mouthing vs muzzel ,
No point muzzling her, just go back to how you used to teach her. My old dog used to play-bite his entire life, and we didn't stop it because he was so gentle, and he'd stop on command. But I can imagine it's worrying for strangers. So yeah, I'd say just go back to how you used to teach her to stop biting and she'll eventually learn that even non-biting mouthing is wrong.

I would never muzzle a dog that didn't need it! Go back to basics with her
