Post-op. Behaviour Change :(
Hi again Hope all is good with everyone in Staffie World!
I (reluctantly) had Kassie speyed last week, the op itself went really well and she bounced back - literally! - very quickly. Only thing is my usually very sweet, placid doggie has become a bit aggressive with me over the last few days (op was a week ago). She's taken to barking at me for no reason and running around the house like a tasmanian devil until she wears herself out and crashes.
I've had to take it easy with the exercise so I'm wondering if this is down to boredom?
Anyone else had a similar experience?
Cheers, Janey x

Think this could be down to a hormoanal imbalance ,will more than likely settle down in a while on its own ,after all it is a major op and would upset the poor girls system ,hope shes better soon x

Thanks
I wondered myself if it was down to hormones but I didn't think there would be a reaction so quickly.
I hope you're right, this only happens a couple of times a day but 16 kilos of fruitloop Staffie can be a handful sometimes lol ~

Re: Post-op. Behaviour Change :(
My experience very normal. She isn't getting her usual exersize which she is hugely used too. Anything like mine, she was out of action for way over a week, although will still seem themselves, playing, wanting to go out etc. I know Moos frustration and cause Kassie is a slighty maturer dog it will take a little longer and a lot more patience whilst they are out of action. I know your frustration but it will be fine.

Hi Janey #1
Thanks for that, I know it's still early days and I was hoping for some reassurance that this isn't a permanent change *gulp* Anyone know if you can buy suits of armour on ebay lol
Seriously though, it's good to know that it isn't unusual and that it's only temporary, hopefully her mood will improve once I can exercise her normally again

Hiya it's only my experience but whenever she can't have her exersize (she just had plaster on for nearly a month cause of her paw) she goes mad! Its living hell! But now we are back out again shes chilled.

Re: Post-op. Behaviour Change :(
Yes, you have 2 problems; her hormones are out of synch & she's not getting the excercise she wants.
The good news is that the hormones will even out soon and once the wound has healed you can build up to the previous amount of excercise!
In the meantime, try to tire out her mind! Give her little things (treats etc) to find around the house. Start teaching her new commands/tricks. It really does help in the short term!
