Aggression?
Hi. Today my OH asked me a question. "Do you think Debo knows what aggression is? And is he ever is going to be aggressive?" Me:" Well,he doesn't have a reason to be aggressive, whenever a dog is a little aggressive towards Debo,he stays calm, act like he doesn't know how to react, just stays friendly." Can he actually develop aggression later on. He's 6mnths, he's not food, people or dogs aggressive. When meeting dogs on the lead,he's getting over exited and barks, like he wants to say-let me go! So am I right? If he doesn't have a reason to be aggressive, he won't be?

Re: Aggression?
This is a tricky one. Up until a month or 2 ago, Charlie was exactly the same as Debo, calm, friendly, very well socialized. But he has developed an issue with small dogs now, he lunges and snarls and has to be kept on lead around them. He's great with dogs his size or bigger, but he really hates small dogs, and it happened overnight and out of nowhere. He is almost 2. I think its because every single time we would walk past a small breed, they would growl and snap at him and he's had enough and goes straight on the offensive when he sees one. I don't perceive him as aggressive, he is absolutely amazing with people and all dogs except small breeds. So yep, potentially, he could develop issues as he matures, but equally, he may not. Just socialize him as much as you possibly can, and always be aware of his body language and the body language of any dog he interacts with.

Re: Aggression?
A very difficult question.
I'd say that it's highly unlikely that he'll ever be aggressive towards people, 99.9999% of staffords just don't have that in them.
It's certainly possible that one day he'll take a dislike to other dogs, but equally it may never happen. Some staffords do become dog aggressive despite everything you will have done with them - it's in their nature - but many more stay friendly as long as they're given no reason to 'have a go'!

Re: Aggression?
Hm,the reason why my OH wonder ,because on the walk Debo met new friend- 5mnts old staffy girl. Her story- was found on the street of Dover, some people took her to the rescue and that's how she got to her new mummy. They're playing fine for about 10 min and then something changed in her. She started to growl at Debo, really pulling his neck so my OH decided to take Debo away because he didn't know how much Debo can take. Well I think she had bad experience or on the streets or in rescue. We always trying to remove Debo from the situation were he doesn't feel ok,trying to not to put him in one were he have to deal with aggression.

Re: Aggression?
At 5 months, the female was probably just playing. They play very rough, and can make awful noises when they're playing.

Re: Aggression?
I've had my friends 10 month old staff pup stay here this week and he is so full on. He was growling and pulling on Charlie so roughly, I honestly thought he was going to really hurt Charlie, but Charlie has the patience of a saint and tolerated everything until Rusko started humping him. Honestly, it was more than likely play, which is good for Debo.

Re: Aggression?
I reckon any dog has the potential to become aggressive if they have enough traumatic experiences, and apparently some dogs do just have it in them to develop dog aggression despite doing everything right. But I'd imagine it's not likely, otherwise no-one would bother socialising their dogs. Just have to do what you're doing and enjoy his friendliness for as long as it lasts for. Might be his whole life, might not be, but chances are it'll stay calm.

Re: Aggression?
Dogs temperments can change dependign on different things my Skye now 7 was great with other dogs very laid back prefered too ignore them most of the tiem, but she was attacked afew times in a year twice was bitten and now she can turn quite quickly so i am always cautious with her, but saying that in regards too your situation, i did decide too get a puppy when i lost my old other staffie, and Skye has been great with her she is 8mnths and her and Skye play so rough biting necks pulling faces it looks awful but they find it great fun
If your dog has no reason too be aggresive then he probably won,t be x

Re: Aggression?
They can certainly become aggressive with other dogs. The best thing to do is to socialize him as much as possible and as often as possible.
