Re: Chasing tail
It's something you need to try and stop as it can become obsessive behaviour if it gets too much. You have to use distraction techniques, a favourite toy , treats etc. I know afe of our members have experienced this and can give you some good advice when they come along

Re: Chasing tail
from 8 till 2, when i get home i normally find her puppy training pads or some sort of paper/toy completely chewed, but hoping thats a teething pup thing rather than boredom. Ive noticed she does it after baths and when shes in a 'hypo' mode

Re: Chasing tail
You could try crate training her, a lot of people do for these reasons. I have never used one myself but it could really help Xx

Re: Chasing tail
A crate is like there little den, a safe place where they can sleep if you have to go out for a couple of hours, I personally haven't used one but I am sure someone will be along that can help more

Re: Chasing tail
I bought my first crate when I got Dempsey & I'm so glad I did! He was a terror for chewing things - to an extent that he could easily have killed himself if left to his own devices! I used to shut the door at night & whenever we went out, but it's got to be said that he has never been left for more than about 3 or 4 hours in his crate (other than night time).
As you can see, he's now very happy to go in there whenever he wants & regularly takes himself to his crate when he wants a bit of peace or an afternoon nap!.......

Re: Chasing tail
Rocky has a bed in the lounge, full use of our bed (a super king size) and his crate in the hall. His uses his crate when he just wants some alone time, not very often it must be said. When we, my hubby and me, go out he takes himself off into his crate and sits there until we have left. He then goes onto our bed for a snooze. We know this because the bed is always nice and warm when we get in

Re: Chasing tail
6 hours is a long time to leave a puppy, is there anyone who will go in and let her out or take her for a short walk while you are working? Is there anyone who you can take her to when you are working.
There are many reasons for a dog to chase their tail, Cyril will sometimes do it while waiting for his food but you do need to distract her or it will become a learned behaviour.
What may help if you are feeding her a dry food is to give her breakfast in a buster cube or frozen, stuffed Kong when you go out. They will help tire her out so she will sleep more. Also put boxes inside each other with treats in for her to destroy, leave a raw cabbage or cauliflower for her to play with and destroy. You will come home to a mess but a happier dog.

Re: Chasing tail
thanks everyone the crate is a good idea, she is locked in the back kitchen when i go out, its quite big and she cant harm herself, shes become attatched to my little girls old baby bouncer so sleeps in that, i wish i could let her have the run of the house but i know she'd pee on and chew everything! she ghets lots of fuss when i return and a good long walk. Iv been getting her bones too which seems to keep her entertained.
