ears - Smelly Ears Empty Smelly Ears

Post by JJBJJBJJB Sun Sep 16 2012, 13:44

Hi...I wonder if anyone can help?....My gorgeous little blue staffy pup (15weeks) has just lost the puppy smell from his body, but his ears still smell quite strongly. There is lots of wax in there, but he is not scratching or bothered by them at all. I just wondered if this was normal, as this is the first puppy we have had and not sure what to do, or if we should take him to vet as he is not at all bothered by it hypnotised . Thanks

If you are concerned about it a trip to the vets won't do him any harm and will give you peace of mind, whilst you are there the vet can advise you what you can do yourself but ears like eyes are a very sensitive part of the dog

Yes, as Dave says, a trip to the vets might be in order.

U can wipe them out, but don't poke about in the ear canal. Any redness or inflammation will need to be checked by a vet x

A damp rag or cotton ball can be used to clean them. It's best to get him used to being handled and touched early to avoid problems later.

I occasionally clean Rockys ears with a cottonwool pad just dampend with water and gently wipe around the ear flap. They do get a bit mucky sometimes escpecialy if they rumage around in the hedgerows.
