Poor Rocco nearly got stolen!!

I have just got back from the vets because someone tried to steal my Rocco this morning from my back garden, luckily his instincts must have told him not to go with them because he managed to get away, but not unharmed as they hurt his paw trying to drag him through the fence which they broke to get to him, I heard him yelp and ran outside to see a hand through a gap made in my fence and the hand was pulling on his paw, which he can't walk on at all! He has been to the vets and he is on anti-inflammatory tablets and I have reported it to the police and everything, but I am worried incase the scare of it will affect him for life because he is still in his second fear imprint period, does anyone have any ideas of anything I could do to help him get over it and forget about it? he is still acting really upset, poor thing

Theres a lot of dog stealing going around at the moment, theres been a few near me the police gave out letters warning people to keep a eye on there dogs and not to leave them outside shops on there own. By the sound of things you was lucky, its a shame your dog didnt have a chomp on there fingers.

I know, he's only just 8 months old poor thing, so he was just resisting by pulling himself back. I think if he had been older he might have bit them and I wish he had!!

These scum bags are disgusting , i hope your dog recovers well from this shock he has had .

Poor little thing, it must have really scared him.

When he's feeling a bit more chipper, just let him out in the garden & watch his body language. Hopefully he'll be fine, but if he isn't, don't sympathise, just go & sit by the gap in the hedge & call him over with some treats or play with him with a nice tug or squeeky toy.

I can't help with any advice on making Rocco feel better - but I'm sure some one will soon.

My friend is a police officer in West Wickham, and there has been a spate of dogs being stollen of all breeds - quite a lot of Chihuahuas apparently. I would hate to think what is happening to them.

What an awful thing to happen. So glad he is alright. I agree with Caryll that you should not sympathise but I am not sure I would encourage him to the spot with treats. Personally, I think he should give the area a wide berth.

It looks like we are going to be getting new fences and changing the garden around anyway so hopefully the difference will stop him being reminded of it so much and will also make it more secure out there

HUGS I usually put a few drops of Rescue Remedy in my dogs water for a couple of weeks if they have had a scare, I find it really helps them, apart from that I just watch them to see if they do react, it doesn't normally take them long to be back to normal.

I have been offered money for Cyril until I told them that he was neutered.

I really hope he isn't affected long-term by this, and thank heaven he resisted, my big lump is so ridiculously friendly and thinks everyone is his best friend - he would have probably gone with them!!

Some people are so discusting aren't they! makes me sick, when I was a teenager I used to have a staffy who I would often walk, but my parents had to stop letting me in the end because other teenagers kept trying to offer me money to breed him, I think if I had ever said yes (which I wouldn't have) they would have used the opportunity to steal him aswell if I wasn't so carefull, such a shame that it's such a loving and undeserving breed to have so many problems all related to scumbags

Oh,no! Hope it won't affect him. BIg kisses. I don't take Debo anymore to the park for the evening walk getting dark so soon( there are no lights), I take him for a walk on well lit streets. I'm to scared

I dont go out after dark either far too risky around here. We have murderers and drug dealers around here, it's bad enough during the day.

Thank-you everyone, he is already walking better on his paw this morning after a good nights rest and he seems happier and more alert this morning, all he wanted to do yesterday was lay down feeling sorry for himself, he wouldn't even * his ears up when things were going on around him. But never mind, we are all safe and very lucky!

Poor Rocco, thats horrible what a thing to happen. I'm sure he will be fine lots of cuddles and treats. Hope his paw heals
