Daft things people say about staffies
I was out with Buster the other day when a guy came up to him and started fussing him. "lovely dog, what is he?" I replied a Staffy. He came back with " thought so, thought so. Could tell when stroking him. You can never get a Staffy on it's back." Nearly wet myself laughing!!!!!

I had to correct someone the other day about lock jaw , my boy will still not accept the fact that their heads don't crack and that there is no such thing as an Irish Staffie no matter how much material I point his way

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
Lovely pics!
I was told the other day that staffies are the dogs which people who grow cannabis have to guard their years. It was just an old guy joking at a vet waiting room...
I had been told previously by a cop off duty that staffies are dogs for drug dealers because they always look so angry.
And the other day a neighbour of mine told me that Stella is definitely a Pitbull cross so if police came and wanted to take her off me I have to say that she is a German Shepherd Dog cross or a Collie croos and that is where she has the long legs and long nose from. Now I am laughing but when he said that I went home and cried.
But then I meet loads of people who like staffies so I am trying not to care so much about silly remarks

People do come out with some trash sometimes, luckily I have not had anything to bad to report to you. Most people in our local park know Rocky is from a rescue centre and have really taken to him, his is one for the ladies.
I can report that Rocky loves to lay on the bed with all four legs in the air with no sign of shyness what so ever

Shaz here. I can say hand on heart that we have had Sophie since she was six weeks and in that time she has NEVER growled or showed aggression at another dog, despite numerous dogs taking a pop at her.
She simply goes down flat on her belly and wags her tail.
I was walking her a few weeks ago and saw a woman with a pug coming towards me. I stepped back into the road between two parked cars taking Sophie with me to allow this stupid woman and her dog to pass. She saw us hd a look of horror on her face, scooped her mutt up and shreiked "Eeeeuuuuuuw, it's one of those dogs" and took off like a rocket

Funny, I've never heard of such thing until I had somebody say it last weekend.Dave wrote:there is no such thing as an Irish Staffie
He said, 'is that a bull terrier',
'yep'
'is she an Irish?'
'err... no, Staffordshire'
'yes, yes, an Irish Staffordshire.'
I had no idea what he was on about

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
Jelly gets on her back all the time to greet other dogs, people, etc. She loves a good belly rub!
I of course had that guy in the park screaming at me to get her on her lead because these dogs eat children LOL
i've also had people ignore completely that I said staffy before the "crossed with something else, lurcher, maybe" part and say "Oh lurcher, lovely, they are such nice dogs". Or even, "good thing, maybe it helps settle down the staffy side". LOL oy. i'm like, erm, it's the staffy side that is the smart, obedient, loyal side. lurcher, if any, just makes her faster than you/your dog.

Awesome pictures. People really do say silly things about staffs sometimes it really makes me laugh. Like a lady in my local park was talking to me while tyson and i were on our walk and she said that she doesn't trust staffs around children because they are aggressive i then saw her the next day when my 5year old brother was walking tyson and playing with him, safe to say she walked on by and didnt say a word.

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
"DON'T TOUCH THAT IT'LL BITE YOUR FINGERS OFF" said the mother to her older child, as a six month old Lola sat next to him (he was throwing perfectly good bread to ducks!)
"don't stroke it it's one of THEM dogs" said the tracksuit wearing greasy haired cow to her boyfriend after he had knelt down to say a quick hello (Lola wasnt interested, there were ice creams nearby...)
"she's very well behaved, what type of terrier is she?"
Me - "Staffordshire bull, I don't understand all the bad press they get"
"quite..." replied the arrogant sod, who then walked off (funny part is he'd allowed his dog and Lola to play in the park for weeks with no issue)
And best, "I don't usually like dogs, but she is gorgeous. And really well behaved. Arn't you Lola, >insert baby voice< yes you are, yes you are!" - my sister

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
We've had " oh does he have to wear one of those because he's a dangerous dog?"
they were referring to his harness.....the naughty side of me really wanted to answer with " oh yes, his licks could kill you"
but incase they didn't get my sense of humor I didn't bother, and just explained the pros/cons of harnesses
Also had a lady pick up her toddler out of Percy's way, who was just happily walking along the path, so when we passed the toddlers feet were hanging directly in Percy's face....Percy just trotted on by, but I'm sure the hanging baby feet were more temptation to stop and lick than anything though hahaha x

That one gets me all the time and I've heard it a few times from people who own staffs so you would think they should know betteraxam102 wrote:Fantastic pics. Two things that grate me up the wrong are there heads crack and lock jaw....
I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I had the girls out. I've been walking them in one of the nicer parts of town recently and I saw a woman with a 14 week old Westie pup. In stead of avoiding us she walked over to us and when Bella started her "I want to play" growl and bark the woman laughed. It made a nice change to the usual walking on the road around parked cars to avoid us.
Love all the pictures, they are so cute

People are idiots
And I love all the back pics, Callie always cycles through that position when she's sleeping. I love how she'll wake up and stare at me, upside down, everything hanging out...quite immodest.
Do other dogs do that or is it just Staffies? I grew up around GSDs and labs and never saw it.

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
Where do I start... "gotta watch him carefully because when they get older they can get aggressive and just snap" is the most absurd comment I have heard.
When someone asked if their dog could approach they asked me, "don't let him attack mine, you won't let him do that right"?
There are many Pit Bulls and American Staffordshire x where I live and Bacon often gets mistaken for one. Also, in my area there are many teenagers and low-income folks who mistreat these breeds and irresponsibly breed them which does not help with the image of similar looking breeds.

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
I've heard them all in the few short weeks we've had Fiver. People crossing the street to avoid him, turning around and walking their dogs the other way, and Lot's of "Is your dog safe with other dogs?" "Does he attack?" etc. It's funny that it is always their little ratty arsed dog that gets all snarly while Fiver just ignores them. Big dogs are usually great with him.
One complete numpty stopped his bike the other night when my wife and I were nearly home and said "Have you bitten him yet?" I said why on earth would I do that?, well said chummy if you bite their tongue it shows them who is boss. I said if I bit his tongue I'd expect him to bite my face off because if you bit mine that's what I'd do to you LOL. He actually said no really I'll show you, I said with a smile look mate if you try to bite my dog if he doesn't stop you I will trust me. He rode off into the sunset undoubtedly thinking I know sod all about Staffies and training them LOL. What a complete *. I've heard some daft stuff from people who know sod all about these lovable face licking so called dangerous dogs but that took the biscuit.

It's called "Roaching" as in dead cockroach.
Greyhounds are well known for doing it but I think all do at some time or other.

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
My Blu will often roll over for a tummy rub, and he likes to sleep with all 4 paws skyward, really funny it is.
My wife is starting to get really angry with some of the pillocks in our village, those who cross the road to pass us even though our dog is on a lead, the nasty comments that are said after she passes and the total ignorance of most other dog owners. I have tried on several occasions to explain that bull terriers do not lock their jaws, that they just hold on normally through fear.
My Blu is fine with other dogs as long as they are not aggressive towards him, for that reason he is always put back on his lead when we see another dog while walking through the fields, but the amount of owners who just let their dogs run upto Blu saying they are friendly, I say that's fine but if he grabs hold of them because they are in his face, don't try and blame my dog as he is under my control, yours is out of control as it has just ran up to mine and as such it is out of control.
But as he is a Staffie, who gets blamed.
Before him I had an EBT but I got a lot less negative comments about him even though he was physically larger and more powerful than Blu.
The media has a lot to answer for as it has given the general public a misinformed view of this most loving and loyal of breeds.

Re: Daft things people say about staffies
I've heard alsorts since I started looking for Molly. Most of it nothing surprising. My mums best was 'don't touch her back end especially when she's on heat! She'll rip your throat out!' Molly sleeps with her bum in my face aNd we've learnt she is soothed by tapping her back end! My favourite is 'don't they eat babies?' yes sure all the time! Molly is quite partial to ginger babies, she likes spice
Molly sleeps with her legs in the air on her back, usually with a paw in an inconvenient place!

You can guess they don't come back, not only do they get a staffie lecture but I wax half there eyebrow off just for being horrible about all the lovely staffies!!! HA ha these stories still making me laugh. Buster being cute has become somewhat of a celeb at the school gates and I can tell you has managed in a few short weeks to dispel many myths. Most of the parents have no idea about the breed and just go on here say. It's actually nice to hear parents saying to their kids "you've not fussed Buster today" when to start with were pulling them away from him and even had another parent who was looking for a dog, see how good Buster is with everyone and change her mind from a Cocker-poo (sorry a very expensive cross breed) to a Staffie.
