The Things People Say!
After reading a few threads about it, I thought it might be fun/therapeutic to make a topic with all of the funny/crazy/infuriating things that people have said to and about your dog(s)! Here we go!
.......
I'll start with a really bizarre encounter I had today. I was approached by two homeless men on the street a short while ago. Man 1 asked if I had a quarter, I told him that I did not. Man 2 asked, "What kinda dog is that? He's got a head on him, uh?" To which I replied, "He's a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and yeah he's got quite a meathead!"
He paused staring at Saxon and then said, "A Staffordshire Bull Terrier, uh? What kind of dog is that?"
I said my go-to line, "The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is basically the smaller British cousin of the American Pit Bull Terrier."
While this conversation was happening Man 1 was pacing and mumbling to himself, he was either drunk or had diminished capacity.
Man 2 said, "English, uh? Cool."
Suddenly, Man 1 swung around to face me and said, "F*** you and your English s***!" He turned to Saxon, looking him dead in the eye and yelled, "F*** you, you English S***!!" Then he turned and walked away.
Man 2 smiled at me in a way that made me think he was completely oblivious to what his buddy/walking mate had just done and said, "Have a good one," before turning to walk away. All I could muster was a "you, too."
Meanwhile, poor Saxon is crouching to the point that he's almost laying on the ground, shaking. I had to pick him up to get him inside.
There are some real crazies here sometimes...

I was on my own, but it was in the 7-11/my apartment's busy parking lot, so I wasn't in any real danger. I was more stunned than afraid and once I noticed how afraid Saxon was I got mad.

Re: The Things People Say!
There is a huge homeless population here and, yes, a lot of them are mentally disabled or dependent on drugs/alcohol.
Saxon hates yelling, especially when it is directed at him. It really freaks him out, but he recovers relatively quickly. Once I got him inside the apartment and gave him some cookies and cuddles he was feeling a lot better.
We're both ok, but it was definitely one of the strangest encounters we've had.

Just a strange encounter that I'm glad ended with them walking away and leaving you and Saxon be. So sad really.

Well, If I really told you what I thought of those two men I may get kicked out of this forum. hahah. a few months ago I was at a off leash park and was with my sis (she has a staffy) and there was a man with a toy speed boat teasing all the dogs, about 30 dogs all going nuts because of the humming high pitch sound we kinda yelled at him and told him to go to the other side of the lake and he said he can play with his boat where ever he wanted and told us to put our dogs on leash. I said a few kind words and lost my cool and kicked his empty box that he stored his boat in. ( i know, i shouldnt of done that) anyhow my sis walked towards him and thought maybe he would leave cus her dog has the biggest meat head ever! like huge! we thought this man would leave by being afraid. (now before anyone has bought thoughts, i know we shouldnt use our dogs to do this because they already have a bad rep, only ignorant people) ok two sisters both doing bad things. Anyhow the man looked at my sisters dog and he just had the biggest smile ever! I had to laugh, I ended up calling the police and he was told he had to play with his boat somewhere else.

omg, poor Saxon and you. I would have been really shaken by that, I'm the biggest wimp out. The strangest one I had was a drug addict stopped me in the street and asked me to give Bella to him I was with my daughter who's 19 so at least I wasn't on my own but I was a bit shaken about it incase he tried to just take her. Sadly there are a lot of dodgy types around here.

Re: The Things People Say!
a man's small child wanted to meet Herman. the man grabbed the child and made a large arc around us on his way by, to avoid getting anywhere near us. when i said hi, the man said "your dog looks like he wants to eat me". i just smiled and told him that Herman may do that, like a popsicle, one lick at a time!

Re: The Things People Say!
This isn't really what someone said but its an overreaction that really stuck in my mind!
Once Romeo was head first in a bush and a jogger in REALLY REALLY short shorts ran past. I goggled at how ridiculously short his shorts were, (he should have been arrested for public indecency!) and Romeo popped out the bus and went to say hello to his exposed legs. The man jumped 10ft in the air and fell into a holly bush. He pulled himself out the bush and made a massive circuit around Romeo and jogged on. I tried to say sorry but I was laughing too much.
If you're so terrified of dogs why would you go jogging in a busy park on the weekend?!

Re: The Things People Say!
There are some really crazy people out there!
Who brings a remote controlled boat to an off leash dog park?
Matt, I had a similar situation where a little girl walked towards Saxon to pet him. Her father saw him, grabbed his daughter's hand and jerked her away from Saxon so hard I thought her shoulder would dislocate!
Poor Romeo must have been so confused when the guy was so scared of him!
