Drinking water too fast
Zeus has vomited four times over the past three days simply because he drinks water too fast, gets a burp and he pukes when he burps. How can i get him to slow down? Hes starting to lose weight because of it. I read up about putting a large rock in his water bowl.. Is that a good idea?

You can do, or you could stop him after a few seconds, let him take a breather & then let him go again.

Well, I know that to get dogs to slow down when they eat, you can put something in their bowl so they have to slow down to eat around it, so in theory, the same thing should apply to water. But...water is a liquid, so I guess it doesn't work the same way as food, they can still drink as quick as they want. Try it out anyway, worth a shot.

Mind you, he shouldn't be losing weight because he's drinking too quickly. Is it only when he drinks?

A trip to the vets is in order if he is losing weight for a diabetic check , is he craving water all the time ? .

Hes losing weight because whatever he eats comes out after he drinks water. Not because hes drinking too fast. How often should he be drinking water? On hot days like today hrll drinl quite a bit but on a normal day he doesnt drink as often

If that's the only reason then restrict his water until an hour after his food.
However, I'd still ask for a diabetes test just in case.

Re: Drinking water too fast
Or there are also special bowls designed to help aid in slowly down drinking.
Like the special bowls you can get to slow down eating.
Though I don't know of the names.. Sorry!
To Google!

Re: Drinking water too fast
I'd always rather err on the side of caution where problems with drinking are concerned. Excessive drinking can be a sign of several illnesses & a simple blood (or urine, I think) test will rule most of them out.

Just an update to let everyone know.. I've started to put half a cup of water in his dry food to make it moist as a lady from PAH mentioned that the problem could be hes finding his food a bit dry which is why he drinks water straight away. So far.. so good! Fingers crossed
