Deer chasing!!
Just thought id share a little story with u all......
Me and the hubby took the dogs for like a 3 hour hike yesterday morning (kids were at nans) all around our village and the surrounding fields. Whilst walking through one field we noticed 5 deer running in the field next to ours along the hedges, they then popped out into our field. Kaos saw them but wasnt interested, Ty spotted them straight away and looked at hubby as if to say "can i"? Now i no this sounds bad but we honestly just didnt think Ty would get anywhere near the deer.....Roger said "go get em" and Ty ran so fast even i was in shock and sprinted across the field after the deer within about 10secs he was amoungst them and has separated one from the rest and was a few steps behind it. We were obviously then sh*ting ourselfs that he was actually gonna catch it, Luckily his recall is good and when he actually heard us shouting for him he came straight back.....a nearly had a heart attack!
Wont be doing that again lol

Re: Deer chasing!!
If a dog chases sheep cattle or deer around here they get shot. I'm glad you don't have those rules or farmers minding the deer like over here.

I wish Molly would be like that, anything bigger than a blackbird and she's not interested..... Birds she'll chase after all day, but anything else she's not really interested, unless it's down a hole to dig in

Re: Deer chasing!!
Even though there are two lots of terriers on my lot they'v never chased anything birds, rats, rabbits even cats and i'v never done much training towards that either to be honest i corrected when their play got out of hand with the cat and thats about it. the most they'v done to the chicken is give a sniff and walk away. It goes to show that it isn't as natural as people think.

Dempsey will chase cats, cows, badgers, deer (or would if I let him!).
The only thing he really ignores is a fox! I think it's cause he knows a fox''ll beat him up!

Re: Deer chasing!!
Ty has always loved chasing things (apart from cats lol he's scared of our sugar, she puts him in his place). Birds is the favourite but he's never quick enough lol, im just soooooo glad his recall is good or i would of felt soooooo guilty especially as we told him to do it!!
Ah well we live and learn! x

Re: Deer chasing!!
Know the feeling, Moo got another squirrel today, bloody silly things, it was safe up a tree and decided to jump to another and fell. Well all I can say is it was quick, wasn't impressed, but again I encourage her to chase them!
