wall chewing
Hi i have a puppy we have had her for around 3 weeks now and she has started a new problem
off chewing my concrete wall in the kitchen.. kaya is 10 weeks tomorrow.
The problem usualy happens when i leave her for ten minutes thro the day when i collect
my children from school.
I come home to find kaya has destroyed all her papers usualy chewed to pieces and she has managed to eat my wall and skirting boards and oak flooring..
I have left tasty treats left radio on and a hot water bottle in her bed and numerous chew toys to
no avail she still destroyes everything HELP???? Can anybody offer new ways to stop kaya doing this
will be greatly appriciated

Re: wall chewing
Can you take her with you to pick the children up? At her age she can be carried in a bag, trying to carry her in your arms will be a nightmare, she will just get heavier and heavier. I used to have a dog that loved going in a bag, she could see more, not just feet and legs.

Re: wall chewing
Loki did this, but it wasn't through boredom, just general puppy behaviour. Hm...if you haven't already got one, get a Kong, stuff it full of some of her food and some tasty stuff (peanut butter or something like that) and give it to her. That should keep her busy for a while.

Re: wall chewing
Yep, leave him with a frozen filled large kong, that will keep him occupied and buy a large stagbar, you could only give him the stagbar when ur going on the school run and I bet u he will still be chewing it when u get bk ! X

Re: wall chewing
Old girl Leyla use to be a wall eater as a pup, but discovered she hated the smell of vicks so smeared the area she kept going back to with that. It worked a treat.
If the smell of vicks does'nt deter your pup from wall eating etc, then maybe its time to start cage training her

Re: wall chewing
We have the same problem with Enzo, plaster off one wall, we now have a nice hole! and one dining table and four chairs destroyed; it occurs everytime that the dogs are put in the kitchen if somebody arrives who doesnt like dogs! We have a crate but I feel guilty putting them in there At this rate I'll be banning the visitors!!!! Have really got a lot of empathy with you on this one!! We have a kong but hadn't thought about freezing it... good idea and have never tried stag bars, so we'll give it a go to. Good Luck Kaya's mummy!!

Re: wall chewing
She will probably grow out of it in time.
Have you thought of leaving the crate where it is, covering 3 sides & the top with an old curtain/blanket, and using it as her bed? That's what I've done for mine - the door now is always left open & he treats it as his 'den'.

Re: wall chewing
crate? 10 minutes isn't that long even if she doesn't love it...there are ways (leaving door open, nice treats or Kong inside) to get her used to being in it....

Hi i have just did that with her new crate
as she does the wall chewing in front of me its like a addiction to her and she has to bite it
I bought kaya a stag antler as well and she loves it probably better than the kong toy tbh..
As she didnt really bother with it..
Thankyou so much i will keep you all posted on progress and of course will be new pictures of
her at weekend

Re: wall chewing
Another good one is bully bars. (bulls pizzles) keeps babs occupied for ages. I found them on Amazon, also found something called apple bitter spray on Amazon. That works wonders

I can't get bulls puzzles for Dempsey cause he tries to swallow them whole.
Bitter Apple is good, but it wears off really quickly. Vicks Vapour Rub is better - if you can stand the smell

Re: wall chewing
Ok beginning to give up all hope, I have a dog thief who can now reach the top of the work surfaces, don't get half as much trouble with Enzo but Enya...... headphones-destroyed, dinner all over her head and floor, dishcloth in pieces..the list goes on. Hope Kaya doesn't follow in Enyas footsteps Nice to see that Kaya likes her crate!kayas_mummy wrote:Thomos 2 wrote:We have the same problem with Enzo, plaster off one wall, we now have a nice hole! and one dining table and four chairs destroyed; it occurs everytime that the dogs are put in the kitchen if somebody arrives who doesnt like dogs!
