Is it just a staffy thing?
So stella is 13 years old now and she's as fit as a fiddle, and when she plays with her toys she shakes them about so they whip her round the face LOL, even whilst shes running.. Vinnie has started doing it too i wonder if its a staffy thing and why do they find it so fun to do

13 is a fantastic age ... and yes, it is a staffy thing, Max shakes things that slap him up the mush all the time which looks REALLY painfull .. but he seems to enjoy it

No, it's not just a staffy thing; I think every terrier I know does it and even my Lab does it sometimes. Shaking things like that is how they'd kill prey, it's a very natural behaviour

I've seen quite a few various dogs doing this, mainly terriers though I think. They do appear to get great satisfaction from it.

They all do it to an extent, but the breeds with a higher prey drive do it more than others. Terriers especially.

Definitely not a Staff thing, my old Boxer, and the Boxer before him, used to do it all the time

That's one of Percy's favourite games.....shaking his toys, whilst running around like a maniac. He even tried to do it with his stag bar, till it clonked him on the head and he yelped. Funnily enough he doesn't do it with the stag bar anymore hahahaha x

Re: Is it just a staffy thing?
I got fed up having so many bruises on my legs because of this so now i make their toys out of old clothes. I use the back of fleece tops, or denim jackets etc or the legs of jeans, trackie bottoms etc. cut them into strips about 1in wide, tie a knot in the end and braid the strips. You can plait the strips instead which makes them more stretchy than braiding.
These toys are lovely for the dogs to wrag and they don't hurt when you are hit with them, they go in the washing machine as well.

Daisy does it too. I try not to stand too close to her after getting whipped round the legs by her rope toy! Ouchie!
