Walkies
Hi all,
New to the forum and new to being a dog owner, we have a gorgeous little blue staff and yesterday he had his last jab, the vet said we can take him for a walk in a week but I've been doing alot of reading online and some say 10 days, just wondering how long was it before you walked your staffy after there second jab, I can't wait to take him out but want to be sure he is ok.
Many Thanks Lee

Re: Walkies
Our vet said to wait two weeks after his second one, because the immunity is still building up during those two weeks. But some vets say a week, some say straight away, so obviously it's one of those things that's debatable. Go by what your vet said, but there's no harm in waiting a bit longer if you're worried. We took Loki out a few days earlier than recommended, but he was fine, so at the very least, wait as long as you've been told to, just to be on the safe side.

Re: Walkies
Each vet will say a different time scale before a pup can go outside after their jabs and thats due to what manufactured vaccine they used.
So listen to your vet not what you have researched on google

Re: Walkies
I don't bother keeping my pups in, this is a time when they need socialising, miss this and it can be harder to socialise them. If the pup is small enough I have them in a bag with their heads pocking out, they can see everything, in fact they can see more in a bag than on the ground. People love to meet them so they get a lot of socialisation. I never put them on the ground.
When you do start to walk him it is 5 minutes for every month of his age, there are breeds that need a little longer like Collies. Pups get a lot of exercise being pups, they only need walks to learn what the big bad world is like so they are not afraid of it.
Good luck with your pup and can we have photos please.

Re: Walkies
I agree with Cyril baby - carry your pup around in small doses, let him see the world from the safety of your arms! If he shakes or whimpers, don't pamper him, just keep a firm but gentle hold on him & talk to him in a normal, quiet voice. If you introduce him to anybody, make sure they know to be gentle & not to crowd him.
Up until 6 months old, the rule for all dogs (no matter what breed) should be 5 minutes walking per months of age (or 1 minute per week if you find that easier). However, a four months old pup could have a 10 minutes walk to the park, 10-15 minutes playing off lead and then a 10 minute walk back. It's the lead walking that should be restricted, although if they are let off lead in the park they should be allowed to lie down & rest any time they want to & strenuous things like chasing balls or running up & down hills etc shoudl be avoided.
