Panacur wormer
I'm about try Panacur as Lola had a bad reaction to Advoctae and Milbemax - has anyone used this and found any problems?

Re: Panacur wormer
I've used it, not on Hiccup, but on numerous dogs in the hospital - we often give to dogs with Parvo as it treats Giardia. We've never had much problems with it, most dogs just don't like the taste of the liquid.

Re: Panacur wormer
My vet will use Panacur on dogs that react badly to Milbemax because it covers lungworm. Some breeds of dogs (mainly the shepherding breeds) are slightly more susceptible to developing fits when given Milbemax.

Sorry both of mine take Milbemax , so interesting to know how you go with it

Yes, Dempsey has Milbemax & he's never had a problem, but then they're all different.

Re: Panacur wormer
Thanks guys. I have been using the earth that Ella recommends so haven't used the Panacur yet, partly because my Dad is in hospital at the moment as if Lola didn't get on with it I might struggle to manage her reaction on top of everything else. No sign of worms or eggs at the moment although she always has one little "scoot" before her morning poo.

I have another 2 months worth of advocate spot-on to use, then will be giving my dogs Diatomaceous Earth for worming.

The only problem with that is coverage against lungworm.

I don't use any other wormer apart from DE so don't know about panacur

there are other natural wormers that 'cover' lungworm without needing chemical wormers.
DE also has been found to kill lungworm if a dog has them if fed regularly enough
edit: remembered the DE is recommended to be fed for 90 days to get rid of lungworm

Re: Panacur wormer
Still haven't used the Panacur but have got MASSIVE tub of DE. So, just to be on the safe side do I give her 90 consecutive days and then....what? I would prefer a natural product and shes not prone to eating slugs - everything else pretty much but not slugs!

I'm still skeptical. Found this article.....
Paragraph 6 is interesting:

Re: Panacur wormer
Use Panacur on all pups and giardia dogs in kennels, haven't had any problems so far *fingers crossed* and seems to work well! Use Milbemax for Bis, but as Caryll said it can be lethal in certain breeds so should be used with caution!

the idea is 90 days to get rid of lungworm and then back to what you were previously doing,

yes you shouldn't breathe it in, but i am on an american forum where foster dogs were treated with DE for lungworm, and not using any other wormers managed to get clear of them

Re: Panacur wormer
Yes, but this one says it's useless for lungworm. That's why I'd prefer to stay with the one I know works.
If they get scientific proof that it works for lungworm, I'll use it.

Re: Panacur wormer
All told it looks like it's a hung jury. Mind you, after looking at all the DE human benefits I have started putting it in my homemade smoothies - no worms for me!
