Dora's lady op
Dropped Dora off at the vets this morning for her lady op. Feeling a bit sad. We bought her a new smokey bone and stag bar for when she returns cos we were feeling guilty...
Poor pup, she wasn't happy at the vets!

Re: Dora's lady op
She'll be fine it's amazing how quick they recover and the hard work then is to keep her calm so she doesn't hurt herself
Big hugs for her from Tilly and Tommy , let us know how she gets on

Re: Dora's lady op
Dora will be just fine, please try not to worry too much.
I'm sure the stag bar will be appreciated later to relieve some of the boredom.

Re: Dora's lady op
Well she is home, currently asleep in her basket.
When we picked her up she was a little confused and dozy but she still managed to pull me out of the vets door! Not sure we are ever going to get her back through it - lol!
It is time we changed vets anyway as we still go to the one that was local to our old house. Maybe we can start afresh with a new practise (fingers crossed!)
I was quite alarmed to see the size of the cut they made - didn't realise it would be so long! It looks very sore.
We have a silly cone to put on her if she starts licking.
The vets said that we were only just in time with the operation as they thought she was getting ready to come into season again already. So she may have another false pregnancy apparently!
Oh well at least after that we shouldn't have any more lady troubles

Tilly had quite a large cut to what I was expecting , the vet shamed me as he said she was a little overweight and they had to make a bigger opening so they could move som fat out of the way, but she did recover well. Hope your baby pulls round soon and remember to keep her inactive

it sounds so pitiful! she is a little brighter today though. I wasn't even sure she recognised us yesterday.

Mia took a few days to recover, vet said she was just being a wimp!!
Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
Did the vets give you advice about post surgery care/ exercise?

Yeah maybe Dora is being wimpy too. She is still wimpering a lot. Its hard to know whether it's the anaesthetic still wearing off, if she is hungry (was told not to feed her too much for 48 hours) if she is in pain or whether it is boredom.
They gave us a print out with useful info on and some painkiller liquid to give her daily - which I have given her this morning.
We are to walk her on lead only for 10 days, they weren't overly specific about how much exercise she should have today (day after). I've given her a really short walk - was going to be a bit longer but she was pulling the lead really badly so we came home. I'll try taking her again soon I think.
I've managed to keep her fairly quiet with her new bone and stag bar, but she isn't that much of a chewer normally - she prefers being more active - playing fetch etc.
Re: Dora's lady op
At least she is home and cosy and recovering well. Shes bound to be sore. Its amazing how long the scar is.

Every vet seems so different . We never got any painkillers for Tilly . Regarding exercise we were told nothing for 48 hours other than a wee and to keep her on the lead. Then to exercise her around the garden for a little while and after a few days , short lead walks only , and she had her stitches out (external ) after about 10 days , then again gentle lead walks for another week until her internal stitches would be gone. Try and limit stairs and jumping up and doen off sofas beds etc (thats where we had the hardest task as she skleeps on our bed upstairs)

Well this is handy. Mia had her lady op today so we can use your experience to see what's coming up
She's really not happy at the moment. Totally dazed, whimpering every now and again and doing odd burpbarks too.
Poor thing.

Re: Dora's lady op
Aww bless, I think advice does vary but I didn't walk Mia first few days, she really milked it and didn't drink at all so she had to go back for fluid injection two days later, so that would be my only advice, to make sure they'r drinking enough!

Re: Dora's lady op
Aww give Mia a hug from me.
The advice does vary doesn't it?
I took Dora for quite a long lead walk this morning. Starting to worry I'm doing too much now but she seemed so much livelier this morning that I just don't think she would have rested properly otherwise. She is now snoozing.
I even thought I would try the park, but soon bailed out when there were too many dogs there off lead coming up to her that I couldn't keep Dora calm and in control, so I decided to stick to the pavements/streets where there were fewer distractions.
And one little moan - why is it that people think it is ok for their dog to run up and greet yours when they are on lead? I'm working so hard on training Dora not to do that when she is off lead. Several owners did it to us today and didn't even call their dog back. Makes me cross.
Doggie meetings should be by the consent of both owners IMO

Glad to hear that Dora is doing well and you are trying to keep her calm.
As for other dogs to come running over to her, this is a difficult one to stop. Can be very annoying to say the least.

Re: Dora's lady op
Apologies for the darkness (I'm blaming YouTube) but this was the pitiful soundtrack to our evening after Mia's op yesterday:
She's already much better this morning though. Her tail's wagging again and she had a half hearted play with her ball.
One odd thing is a sort of cough she keeps doing, as if something's stuck in her throat and she's trying to clear it. I guess they put a tube down there so maybe it's just irritated her throat or something but it doesn't sound comfortable.
She was also really jumpy when we went to take the bandage off her leg so I guess the needle hurt her or something. I know from trying to clip her claws how wriggly she can be.

Re: Dora's lady op
Glad to hear she's doing well , I would really lay off the long lead walks and keep her contained to short walks in the garden for a while yet , she will think she's fine but she needs to heal exteranl and internal

aww finally got chance to look at your vid of Mia Durbster.
Poor thing!
Hope she is recovering well.
One thing I've noticed with all this lead walking, Dora's lead walking is really bad! I've been doing loads of tedious heel walking training to tire her out!

To be honest, other than being a bit easier to wear out at the moment she's pretty much back to normal.alexiastra wrote:aww finally got chance to look at your vid of Mia Durbster.

The hardest part has been stopping her jumping and rolling about to protect her stitches. How's Dora doing?

Re: Dora's lady op
once the anaesthetic had fully wore off which took about 48 hours, she seemed really lively but then a day or so later she did calm down and was easier to manage.
As I mentioned the walks are tricky as anything remotely interesting in the distance and she is pulling me towards it - guess she has been starved of doggy interaction etc. We nearly always let her off lead at some point in her walks, I think she is aching to run about!
