Itching & Biting still
Heya everyone,
Vinnie is constantly itching/scratching himself.. he has been since we got him i think, he was wormed and flead etc about 2 days after we had him.. ive mentioned it to the vet and all she says is not to worry about allergies and stuff as hes still only little and to keep on feeding him what we are atm ( Royal Canin.. ) Even if its nothing to worry about yet its upsetting me because he is constantly itching himself and scratching and it cant be comfortable or nice, does anyone know what it could be? And could you recommend any good hypoallergenic foods i could try ?
He was cutting himself from scratching so hard but i try and distract him when he starts to itch or scratch now by playing with him so hes not getting so many cuts and sores. Thank you

Re: Itching & Biting still
It could be an allergy to grass or something outside. Try rubbing him down with a damp cloth after walks and see if that helps. There is also medicine you can give but I'm not familiar with the UK but someone should be along soon.

If he is not loosing hair I wouldn't worry too much, could be the heat or an allergy. Have you had any skin scrapes done or is it not that bad yet? Xx

Just out of curiosity is he scratching at his neck area ?? its just that when a pup wears a collar for the 1st time they do scratch alot till they get use to wearing a collar in the home.

Royal canin is pretty pants IMO and for the price, you could be feeding a much better grain free food like Fish4Dogs or Applaws so you might want to gradually change to a better food. www.whichdogfood.co.uk is pretty good for help choosing. Most vets I've met know little about canine nutrition sadly.

Re: Itching & Biting still
I Will try the damp cloth thing
Yeah he does scratch his neck but he also scratches anywhere he can reach lol, his tail feet belly legs etc
Will look at some new food as vet said Royal Canin was really good but obviously not..
No he hasn't had anything like that yet Janey the vets are saying he's too young to start worrying about allergies and stuff :s but it cant be nice for him constantly itching and scratching
xx

You may want to try him on James Wellbeloved which is hypo - allergenic. It is widely available in pet stores and at Pets at Home:
