Its been a good day

Well done Ledger excellent recall off lead all day I very rarely let him off as he has been hit and miss but as he has been doing well in short bursts the last couple of days so I extended the time today and even let him off with his boomer ball (normally stays on flexi lead with a harness) and he has come back every time when called even when he trotted out of sight up the hill on one occasion.

Then on our last walk tonight he spotted a cat stood behind a tree before I did, he ran towards it and my heart sank as the cat stood its ground instead of running off, well Ledger just pounced past it and turned back around the tree so cat is still intact and Ledger came back straight back and sat at my feet when called

He is now upset in the corner of the room as the neighbours are arguing again! Nothing like a big brave Staffy!

Never had a big problem with Tilly and recall , or Tommy he is shaping up well, it's just all the other more basic command they struggle with although Good Boy / Girl normally gets instant attention as they sit down licking their lips waiting for the treat

Well the 'off lead' is getting better (good thing as when my dad took Ledger out a few days ago he nearly chewed through his flexi lead) it means he gets a good run on each walk and he is constantly looking for me, luckily we haven't been surprised by any other dogs coming into the park so he hasn't had chance to dart off but I have kept his attention with biscuits while people have walked past.

Tonight I took a small ball out with us (he has never shown much interest in chasing anything but his boomer ball in a garden) and to my surprise he has been happily chasing it around the field he did 'fetch' on the first throw but was stubborn after that and would just lie down with it once caught! Still productive as he carried the ball for the rest of the walk and 'gave' when asked.

I think he is suitably worn out so I can leave him while I go out for the night shift

well done ledger! you can work on recall in the house, i started by randomly through the day when is laying around, playin, or in another room, id say recall command and always always treat reward, in my case i was training him to touch my hand with his nose when i say touch. This now works excellent when off lead

Ok set back, went out on the field this morning and kept his attention with a ball and he ignored the other dogs. But tonight he trotted off just out of sight and didn't react to my call as I got round the corner he had gone up to another staffy she had a ball he had a stick and between them they started rough play but in a split it turned just that bit rougher I managed to get over and get hold of both and hold them apart until the other dogs owner took her off me. Owner said the other dog was fine and Ledger has received a bite to his bottom lip it bled alot but I can barely see it now its cleaned up but lesson most definitely learnt too much too soon
