:( need to use a halti head collar
Poor Ruby, i feel so bad for her, but shes a little madam when walking in a crowded place, especially with dogs around. She walks so lovely normally, doesnt pull on the lead, walks nicely by my side. Today though, she was so strong, we invested in a halti for her. She hated it at first, kept flopping around on the floor trying to remove it. I have arthritis in my hands and wrists so i have little strength to stop her pulling, and also in my feet and ankles so have bad balance, so it was a must have for me to be able to take her out when other people are around without either her escaping or jumping at people/kids. After about 10 minutes apart from the odd paw over the face as shes walking she did seem to settle with it on. Ive been bringing it out and showing her while giving her a treat this afternoon, and she already puts her nose in it on command to get a treat so i figure she cant hate it that much. Hopefully, she will soon learn not to drag me about and we can do away with it,and its only for 'busy place' use. I always hate seeing dogs with halti collars on though, they almost have a muzzled look about them so for a staff its so much worse as they seem to be given a wide berth to start with do any others people on here use the halti collars?

I use one too for marley when Im going into town. its the only thing that has ever worked for more than a week before he either worked out how to counteract it or escape from it. I did have a sporn harnes which was quite good but he worked out how to get out of it, he then perfected his technique until he could get out of it in seconds the little git.

I don't like haltis but i use a dogmatic on Chance and once you accustom them to it they work wonders. Chance has never been bothered with it but walks lovely with it on

i like the look of those dogmatic ones, not seen them before. Roo will no doubt out grow her halti, if she does and we do need another i think il try one of those so thanks for that they look more surdy than the haltis too. hopefully though, she will learn not to drag me around before she needs another, i hope so anyway i decided against a harness as i thought she would just pull regardless, with an old rescue we had he would pull in all of his harnesses and only a halti stopped him but even so he would still put his head down and attempt to pull. so odd as as soon as the lead was off, he would walk to heal

Re: :( need to use a halti head collar
We got a Canny Collar for Rocky when we first got him, this is very similar to the Halti. After a while of using it we didn't bother anymore as he is on a harness now.
We do occasionally put it on him now when we go for a walk and he doesn't have his harness on but that's not very often.

I have one for Bella. It didn't take long for her to get used to it and she will sit to get it on as soon as she sees it. She walks great with it. The dogmatic ones look good so I might get one of those when she out grows this one.

Re: :( need to use a halti head collar
thank you everyone for your replies. im about to take Roo out with hers on, just for a short walk, i want her to get used to it and see it as a good thing so she can still go for walks and enjoy her time out of the house. I dont want to take her on longer wanders with it on until shes comfortable with it

I used a Halti with Tyson for about a month when he was doing the teenager months. He hated it but it did give me a lot of confidence and it did stop him pulling me. He walks like a dream now.

I used a halti on my girl when training. didn't need it afterwards. It worked well in training her to walk well.

Re: :( need to use a halti head collar
Try using a double ended lead and attach it to both her collar and the halti. That way you can mostly walk her as normal but quickly switch to the halti part when needed.
