Wet & Dry Food
Hi
I am currently changing my 13 week old pup over to orijen dry food. I have been thinking, would it be a good idea to give him say dry 1 meal, and wet another? or maybe a little of each? or would this be to much for him. I ask, as before the orijen, he was eating some wet and dry pedigree mixed. The wet food i am considering is Natures harvest puppy, as it looks really good, and they sell it in pets at home for £1.15 for a 395g tray, but both the Orijen dry & the natures harvest wet are complete foods.

Re: Wet & Dry Food
I, personally, wouldn't go e wet food because it's about 80% water! But if that's what she's used to, then there's no problem.

Hi Caryll
I was thinking maybe just a small bit of the wet in with the dry. Very true its 71% moisture, then on the composition it says 71% chicken.

If you want to add something to the dry kibble try just adding a little plain cooked, cooled chicken, with skin and fat removed.

I wouldn't. Orijen is a great food and if it's going down well then there's no point mixing in a poorer quality food IMO. Natures Harvest is pretty good but it contains quite a bit of rice and as has already been mentioned, lots of water which you can get from the tap a lot cheaper!

Re: Wet & Dry Food
I feed Molly JWB and mix a bit of Naturediet puppy with it. She likes it and clears the bowl. I know you dont have to add it as the dry food is a complete food but I dont mind the cost of the wet stuff and it gives a bit more flavour.

Re: Wet & Dry Food
I bought 1 tub of the wet, put a tiny bit in the microwave (bout a teaspoon full) for a few seconds mixed it with the kibble, usual amount and he lapped it up. So i`m thinking, i may use it like this, kinda as a sauce for the kibble just for a diff flavour (as Tartan said) once a day, can`t do any harm, a tub will last ages and to my supprise its best before date is June 2013 kept at room temp, but as i`ve opened it, i`ve put it in the fridge. Could do the same with other wet food, or he prolly like it just the same with normal gravy i guess. I won`t be giving any wet food as a whole meal though. Thanks for all the advice.

Is the rice bad for them?

Rice is one of the 'better' grains for dogs but it's still a grain which they don't need and can cause problems. Since you're spending a lot on one of the best (grain free) foods on the market, I'm not sure why you'd want to add another lower quality food with grain? If it's just because you think he'll like something a bit moist then I'd add things like a little natural yoghurt, a few sardines, a bit of mashed banana etc.
