Lump appeared
Hi, My staffie is nearly 10 years old and up to now has never had any health issues, but last week we noticed after he had gone a poo a red lump popped out of his bum, he was not bothered by this and it later went back inside. I do have an appointment with the vet on Monday - but has anyone else had this sort of problem with their staff.

Re: Lump appeared
It sounds like piles but I'm not sure if dogs can get that!?!?

Re: Lump appeared
Hi & welcome.
Could be piles, or could be a prolapse. Either way, a vet should be seen to get the appropriate treatment.

Toby's lump
Hi I took Toby to the vet he told us it is a prolapse and prescribed Metacam and nisamox, also told us to wash the area with a solution of sugar mixed with cool water, then use ky jelly to try and push the prolapse back. We have noticed no change and now can no longer push the prolapse back. This is now day 9 of treatmentand I have just emailed the vet and waiting on reply. We did go and see him 2 days ago to ask for a lampshade? ( I dont know what they call them but I think people will know what I mean) to stop Toby from licking the area. The vet did stress that it is not good to perform surgery, all we can do is wait for the vets advice.

Re: Lump appeared
Update on Toby, the vet now advised us he will need an operation. He is booked in for tomorrow, not looking forward to leaving him, he has never been left before I know he will fret and he hates the vets, the only time he goes there normally is for his booster, he spends the whole time barking when we are there. All I hope the prolapse don't return.

Re: Lump appeared
They will stitch the bowl to the inside of him so that a prolapse won't occur again. You will need to watch his diet and not give anything that will cause very hard bowl movements or constipation, but other than that it should be perfectly fine and just back to normal

Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be fine & back home before you know it!
Yes, you'll need to keep a careful watch on his food/bowel movements, but other than that he should make a full recovery very quickly!

UPdate Toby
Hi, Toby was due to have the prolapse operatered on Friday, after spending 10 days with the prolapse outside, we could not push it back no matter how we tried. Guess what Friday morning the prolapse had gone back on its own! I spoke to the vet who agreed this was great news and surgery was not needed, great news for Toby who hates the vets. We are still giving Toby metacam on the vets advice, but to date we have not seen the prolapse
